Join Dr. Tyler Pierson and his research group as a Postdoctoral Scientist in the Cedars-Sinai Regenerative Medicine Institute!
The Pierson Laboratory is devoted to understanding the pathological mechanisms involved in pediatric neurogenetic disorders. The research goal of the Pierson laboratory is to model neurogenetic disease with patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells in order to understand the disease mechanisms associated with pediatric neurodevelopment and neurodegenerative disorders. Exploration of stem cell-based therapies for the delivery of therapeutic drugs, small molecules and proteins is another focus of our work. The Pierson Lab is also involved in confirming diagnoses in children with known, but rare, neurogenetic disorders through cellular modeling, as well as developing research to link unique neurological presentations with new genes and causes. Are you ready to be a part of breakthrough research?
Tyler Mark Pierson, MD, PhD, has extensive experience studying neurogenetic disease using patient-derived IPSCs, molecular biology, and animal models. Tyler Pierson did his doctoral training at Baylor College of Medicine (advisor: Bert O'Malley, MD) and pediatric neurology training at CHOP/University of Pennsylvania, followed by a clinical fellowship in the Neurogenetics Branch of NINDS at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Pierson was a member of the Undiagnosed Diseases Program at the NIH. In addition to directing his laboratory, Dr. Pierson is also the director of the Pediatric Neurogenetics Clinic of Cedars-Sinai and the pediatric lead of the Cedars-Sinai Center for the Undiagnosed Patient.
The Postdoctoral Scientist should have an interest in the basic science of induced pluripotent stem cells (IPSC), neurogenetic disorders, drug screening, and gene therapy. Interest in gene regulation, corticogenesis and lysosomal disorders are an added plus. The Postdoc works independently but in close cooperation and in consultation with Dr. Pierson and other Research Scientists. The Research Postdoc will be expected to develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols for these projects, as well as analyze and interpret data.
