How You Will Make an Impact: The Assistant Lab Director plays a crucial role in supporting the Lab Director in managing laboratory operations and ensuring the success and efficiency of the laboratory. Their support in maintaining quality, efficiency, and communication contributes to the overall success of the laboratory and through their responsibilities and contributions they can assist in the advancement of reproductive medicine.Top of Form

What You Will Do: The Assistant Lab Director collaborates with the Lab Director, clinical team, and laboratory staff to ensure the highest standards of patient care, laboratory efficiency, and regulatory compliance. The Assistant Lab Director will have delegated oversight and responsibility over the lab and is responsible for assisting in quality control, staff management, protocol development, and data analysis. The Assistant Lab Director reports to the Lab Director.

  • Ensure the department meets the technical requirements to maintain the greatest gamete and embryo viability.
  • Follow and ensure staff follow lab protocols and policies as issued by the Lab Director; help review and train staff.
  • Ensure all technical functions of the department are conducted.
  • Work with the Corporate Lab Director and Medical Director in evaluating and establishing new techniques and review existing techniques.
  • Participate in applicable educational opportunities to evaluate and establish new techniques.
  • Monitor preliminary patient laboratory data in order to make informed decisions during the IVF cycle.
  • Prepare written technical procedures for all procedures performed in the embryology laboratory.
  • Maintain laboratory communication with the Lab Director, Medical Director, and Nurse Coordinators.
  • Document action taken in problem solving (occurrence and/or incident reports).
  • Ensure SART entry, as well as review of CAP checklists and assistance during FDA inspections.
  • Provide hands-on work as an embryologist as needed:
  1. Assist with regular data collection analysis/ assessment for QA, QC, QI.
  2. Aid in cell shipment, cryo billing, inventory, and other embryology related tasks.
  3. Document patient results in EMR.
  4. Perform all aspects of medium preparation (makes stock solutions, prepares medium for each case).
  5. Perform daily, weekly, and periodic maintenance on equipment, trouble shoot problems, and make decisions for repair.
  6. Clean embryos with minimal trauma to observe fertilization and able to judge fertilization by observation of pronuclei and polar bodies.
  7. Present in surgery for oocyte retrievals and able to locate all oocytes retrieved.
  8. Process semen for IVF procedures.
  9. Perform oocyte inseminations.
  10. Perform daily quality controls.
  11. Perform housekeeping tasks involved in maintaining work area.
  12. Performs ICSI.
  13. Performs fertilization checks and embryo assessments.
  14. Performs embryo biopsy and associated processes.
  15. Conducts embryo and oocyte vitrification and warming.
  16. Participates in research and continuing education as available.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Bring:

  • PHD required.
  • ELD or HCLD licensure preferred.
  • 3 years’ embryology experience required.
  • 1 year experience in a clinical setting required.
  • Well organized with effective communication skills.
  • Ensure that operating procedures are followed.
  • Able to perform QC and QI activities.
  • Able to orient new staff and help coordinate periodic in-services/education.
  • Must be able to interact with regulatory agencies (FDA, CAP, SART) to help maintain lab operations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will interact with others and ensure compliance with medical regulations, ethical guidelines, and organizational policies to maintain the highest standards of care and patient and staff safety.

CCRM’s Compensation: The salary range represents the national average compensation for this position. The base salary offered will vary based on location, experience, skills, and knowledge. The pay range does not reflect the total compensation package. Our rewards may include an annual bonus, flexible work arrangements, and many other region-specific benefits.
