The Department of Art History and Art at Case Western Reserve University seeks to appoint a Visiting Assistant Professor to teach Museum Studies foundation courses. In particular, we seek candidates whose expertise would complement the current departmental curriculum, with special priority given to those who could teach courses in the arts of Asia, Islam, Indigenous America, or Africa and the African Diaspora. Teaching duties include two courses each semester, comprising the museum studies sequence (ARTH 490A in the fall and ARTH 490B in the spring) and undergraduate and/or graduate classes in the successful applicant's area of specialization.

Candidates should exemplify excellence and innovation in research, scholarship, and teaching, with a demonstrated interest in engaging with museum and curatorial work. The CWRU Department of Art History and Art and our Joint Graduate Program have a longstanding collaboration with the renowned Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA), and candidates are expected to have a strong commitment to object-based pedagogy. The VAP will fully participate in departmental and university service, which will include placement and supervision of second-year MA internships at the CMA as well as other University Circle and Cleveland area institutions.

Minimum requirements: PhD or ABD if the PhD will be in hand by August 2024, with a promising research trajectory. Teaching experience at the college level is desirable. Must be eligible to work in the USA.
