POSITION TITLE: Graphic Design Faculty and Program Director

DEPARTMENT: Division of Creative Arts, College of Arts, Sciences and Business

POSITION STATUS: Full-time (9-month)

POSITION REPORTS TO: Division Director

JOB SUMMARY: With consultation of the Division Executive Director and Program Director, the Graphic Design Faculty is responsible for the instruction of art courses, advising and curricular initiatives of the graphic design program as well as providing effective leadership in program recruitment, curriculum development, implementation and evaluation of the Graphic Design degrees and related minors. This is a full-time faculty position.

Major Responsibilities/Activities

  • Adheres to all university academic and employment policies identified in the Employee and Faculty handbooks and academic catalogs
  • Participates in recruitment, retention, and development efforts in coordination with division members and/or Enrollment Services
  • Fulfills full-time contracted teaching load as defined by the faculty handbook
  • Engages in Scholarship as defined by the Boyer Model, including, but not limited to activities identified in the faculty handbook
  • Respects the moral and religious beliefs of the university and students; uses discretion when expressing personal beliefs and views
  • Attends program, division, college and university meetings as requested
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Program Director, Division Executive Director or college Dean
  • Adheres to teaching, service, scholarship and other responsibilities identified in the employee handbook
  • Manages and updates program documents (g. catalog, academic plans) 
  • Assists the division executive director in the preparation of brochures and marketing materials for the program 
  • Reviews syllabi to ensure classes are taught consistent with USF guidelines, content map, and the catalog description 
  • Engages in Scholarship as defined by the Boyer Model, including, but not limited to activities identified in the faculty handbook
  • Develops, implements, assesses, and revises program curriculum to achieve current standards 
  • Develops course schedule and monitors course sequence and offerings 
  • Coordinates academic advising, supporting and assessing student academic achievement 
  • Maintains contact with alumni
  • Respects the moral and religious beliefs of the university and students; uses discretion when expressing personal beliefs and views 
  • Provides effective leadership in development and implementation of programmatic mission and vision for improvement through strategic planning 
  • Prepares programmatic accreditation reports, program reviews, and other reports/analyses as requested 
  • Oversees program budget and collaborates on corollary budgets (g. capital, library, technology) 
  • In conjunction with the division executive director and college dean, establishes and maintains contractual agreements, including affiliation and articulation agreements, with other agencies and institutions 
  • Makes recommendations to the division executive director regarding the appointment, mentoring, evaluation, and dismissal of adjunct faculty in the program 
  • Develops, administers, and maintains program records, policies and procedures 
  • Effectively communicates program issues to the division executive director 
  • Provides effective leadership in oversight of student recruitment and retention responsibilities 
  • Leads new student registration and recruitment activities
  • Maintains contact with prospective students for the graphic design program
  • Leads efforts to plan, implement and evaluate marketing of programs 
  • Assures effective advising of program majors 
  • Recommends students for scholarships and awards to the division executive director 
  • Remains abreast of academic and industry developments and certifications
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Division Executive Director or college Dean

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Master’s degree in an area of graphic design preferred; Master of Fine Arts preferred; or a combination of a post-secondary degree and 10 years of related graphic design industry experience.

Experience

  • Evidence of successful teaching at the post-secondary level

Knowledge and Skills

  • Demonstrates competence in educational principles, instructional methods, evaluation techniques and technology used in higher education classrooms, laboratory and clinical settings including proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the profession including theory and practice, procedures, and regulations
  • Demonstrates proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written and electronic) necessary to interact effectively with students, faculty, professional staff, administration, clinical affiliates, and the community
  • Demonstrates skill in goal setting and team building
  • Demonstrate analytical and organizational skills to plan, implement, and evaluate program activities
  • Digital media and web design proficiency preferred.
  • Demonstrates honesty and loyalty to the University and support its mission and religious affiliation
  • Demonstrates the ability to coordinate services to the needs of diverse populations within the time and financial limits of the institution
  • Must be willing to work irregular, and sometimes long hours, including weekends and university breaks
