Orting Elementary School DESCRIPTION: Work under the supervision of certificated staff in the preschool classroom to provide instructional or other appropriate services.

REQUIREMENTS: Must meet the following requirements to move forward in the screening process:
Be at least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent; and
(a) Have received a qualifying score on the Education Testing Service paraeducator assessment; or
(b) Hold an associates degree or higher from an accredited college or university; or
(c) Have earned seventy-two quarter credits or forty-eight semester credits at the one hundred level or higher at an accredited college or university; or
(d) Have completed an apprenticeship as a paraeducator, in a program registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. High School diploma or equivalent.
  2. Applicable AA degree or equivalent work experience and/or training preferred.
  3. Ability to relate to students, staff and parents.
  4. Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Ability to utilize appropriate strategies and techniques to provide effective instructional support.
  6. Work Skills Assessments: Achieve minimum acceptable levels/scores in reading, writing, math and technology assessments.
  7. First Aid/CPR Certified (through an approved OSD provider that includes return demonstration) or the ability to obtain within 30-days of hire.
PERFORMANCE, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Assisting students with toileting including catherization
  2. Feedings, oral and tube feeding (excluding the non-oral administration of medication)
  3. Suctioning
  4. Transferring non-ambulatory students
  5. Physical restraint in accordance with the aversive therapy plan.
  6. Diabetic health plan management (with evidence of completion of PDA training).
  7. Work with students individually or in small groups in a variety of content areas/subjects.
  8. Assist staff, as appropriate, in the design, implementation, and evaluation of instructional programs and student progress.
  9. Assist in student supervision and discipline.
  10. File papers, run errands, operate duplication machines, attendance, minor clerical duties.
  11. Lead group discussions.
  12. Work with students individually or in small groups in a variety of content areas/subjects
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.
PREFERRED candidates will have experience working with students in a school classroom setting.

REPORTS TO: Instructor and principal

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Work Year Remainder of the 2023-24 school year
Hours Two (2.0) hours per day, Monday - Thursday
Schedule Position 1: 12:20 pm - 2:20 pm
Position 2: 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Salary 2023-24 PSE Salary Schedule A*
High Needs Paraeducator I ($23.74 - $29.00 DOE)
High Needs Paraeducator III* ($26.54 - $31.93 DOE)

* Higher pay rate for:
Satisfactory completion of Educational Para-Professional Apprenticeship Program or
Accredited AA Degree (official transcripts are required) or
Seventy-two (72) quarter credits or forty-eight (48) semester credits (official transcripts are required)

Eligibility for benefits is determined by the number of hours an employee is anticipated to work during the school year (September 1 through August 31). Employees anticipated to work 630 hours or more in a year are eligible for the following benefits: medical, dental, vision, retirement, life insurance, long-term disability and the employee assistance program.

This benefit is available, based on the outcome of annual voting of employees by group.
