Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is Hiring an Acting Director, Division of Regulatory Science and Compliance (DRSC) Near Atlanta, GA

Duties

Classified Set of Duties:

  • Serves as the Director for the Division of Regulatory Science and Compliance (DRSC) in the Office of Readiness and Response (ORR).
  • Oversee the Division's regulatory programs and provide overall direction and vision to Division leadership on a wide range of select agent and toxin preparedness and response issues, including program planning, policy formulation, and administrative issues for ORR.
  • Ensure the agency complies with and responds to related legislation, laws, regulations, policies, and guidance.
  • Develop goals and objectives for the select agents and toxins programs.
  • Establishes, revises, or reviews policies, procedures, mission objectives, and organization design for the staff, as necessary to eliminate work problems or barriers.
  • Provide expert consultation and leadership in the field of select agents and toxins to public health experts, research scientists, physicians, and scientific administrators, nationally and internationally.
  • In support of CDC/ATSDR public health research and analyses, performs duties involving the evaluation of research or the identification of causes or sources of bio-safety and biosecurity problems and their relationship with public health preparedness and response activities.
  • Represent ORR with other CDC/ATSDR organizations, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Office of Inspector General (OIG), USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Intra-governmental Select Agent and Toxin Technical Advisory Committee, and other relevant partner organizations/agencies.
  • Makes substantial, multi-layered, and multi-dimensional recommendations to carry out control procedures, streamline public health preparedness and response processes and procedures, and design new approaches to resolve programmatic issues that contribute to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the CDC/ATSDR preparedness and response goals/mission.

Qualifications

Applicants must show clear evidence of specialized experience.

Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience with identifying and addressing bio-safety and bio-security issues related to laboratories and coordinating bio-safety and bio-security issues with other federal entities.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and experience of bio-safety and biosecurity problems in a lab setting and their relationship with public health preparedness and response activities.
  • The ability to bring about strategic change, both within and outside the organization, to meet organizational goals.
  • The ability to lead people toward meeting the organization's vision, mission, and goals.
  • The ability to manage human, financial, and information resources strategically.
  • Experience in oral communication techniques to serve as an agency representative, present findings and deliver briefings, explain and justify recommendations, and negotiate solutions to disputed recommendations.
  • Experience in written communication techniques to prepare reports used as the basis for key executive-level management decisions.
  • Experience in interpersonal relationship skills to establish and maintain practical and diplomatic working relations and secure support and cooperation.

Education

Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Agency education requirements: An MD or Ph.D. in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position is required.
