Monitor Student Learning in a Morning, Day and After-School Program Environment

Monitor and mentor student learning activity each day; Prepare objectives and outlines/lesson plans for each day; establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students; submit lesson plans to Teaching Fellows at the end of each work outlining target standards achieved; tutor youth individually and in groups; prepare reports on youth activity and accomplishments; enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order; Observe and evaluate student’s performance, behavior, social development, and physical health (if applicable); monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials; at all times, the tutor is to set a responsible and positive example to youth, in accordance with California Teaching Fellows Foundation standards and school district standards.

Adhere to Teaching Fellows Day and Morning Program Outline

The tutor shall follow the day and morning program outline, which will also include the shadowing of a master teacher or administrator assigned to the tutor; assist with checking in youth and tutoring them in their homework, provide an enrichment component consisting of pre-scheduled/organized educational activities, and provide an academic component which entails a structured learning activity.

Communication & Safety

Tutors are encouraged to maintain good communication with other tutors, their master teacher/administrator assigned to them, and with the California Teaching Fellows Foundation; collaborate with other tutors in lesson plan development and furthering the mission of the day and morning program, and demonstrate excellent teamwork. For the purpose of training and development, shadow an assigned master teacher or administrator. With respect to safety, the tutor is expected to monitor students, as well as their overall safety while under supervision; know the location of all students under their supervision; follow emergency procedures set forth by Teaching Fellows and/or the school site/school district; ensure that the tutor-to-student ratio (1 in 20) is always maintained; monitor suspicious activity and inappropriate conduct from unauthorized individuals on school site; and immediately communicate to the executive director or local authorities of all incidents involving, but not limited to, abuse of any type and injury or illness of a student; and submit a complete incident report to the executive director, if applicable.

Perform Other Duties as Assigned

Attend monthly staff development training and meetings as scheduled and assigned; follow directions, policies, and rules set by the executive director / California Teaching Fellows Foundation; and offer opinions and suggestions of proposed actions and decisions that may affect the day and morning program.

Qualifications


  • 18 years old or older
  • Have obtained a high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Completion of 48 college units or passage of an approved exam, if applicable, to meet the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) requirements.
  • Proficiency in the English language, including spelling, grammar, and composition; ability to speak multiple languages is recognized as beneficial but not required. 
  • General understanding of educational standards and the public school system.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to undergo background checks and Tuberculosis exam.
