Position Summary
The Administrative Support Coordinator II reports directly to the department chair and acts as lead for the ASA II. This position provides support for the faculty as well as office coordination/lead employee responsibilities. These responsibilities include the following: initiating and directing seasonal workflow, planning and overseeing budgetary and fiscal matters, course scheduling, interpreting academic and administrative regulations and policies, preparing faculty appointment documents, gathering data, assisting committees, training and coordinating staff and student employees, coordinating and assisting with faculty periodic reviews and faculty performance reviews.
This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Department Summary
The Department of History has 20 full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty, an average of 17 full and part-time lecturers, one full-time Administrative Support Coordinator II, one full-time Administrative Support Assistant II (proposed, vacant at this time), as well as work-study and student assistant workers. It is one of the largest departments in the university, serving as many as 4,500 SDSU students every semester, including over 250 majors and pre-majors and 40 M.A. students.
The History Department has led the nation by introducing an innovative pedagogy that is interdisciplinary, cross-cultural, and transnational. In addition to area studies, the department offers several thematic fields of concentration, including social and cultural history, the history of the family and childhood, global history, urban history, memory in history, and sex, gender, and the body in a historical perspective.

Education and Experience
Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.
These qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.
Key Qualifications
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience monitoring and maintaining budgets.
  • Experience with data entry and updating database records.
  • Experience coordinating administrative support functions for a group.
  • Working knowledge of standard university software systems.
  • Lead and/or supervisory experience.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations in a university setting is preferred.
  • Experience working at special events preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,200 per month.
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,865 - $6,336 per month.
