Pay Range: $150 per class, approximately $36,000-$42,000 (depending on the number of sections)

About the English Department at Presentation High School
During four years of English classes at Presentation, students at Presentation read extensively, exploring a wide variety of authors, eras, and genres; they are also taught to express their thoughts clearly and articulately through creative writing projects, essays, and long-form critical research papers. Returning graduates often mention how grateful they feel for the college-level preparation provided by the English Department at Pres.
We are always looking to improve and are currently working on our assessments. We are evaluating the purpose of both formative and summative assessments and plan on using Backwards By Design Planning to analyze and, if need be, redesign formative assessments to ensure that we are practicing those skills we want to assess summatively.
Position Summary
Presentation High School in San Jose, California is seeking a temporary, part-time English instructor to join the English Department in the 2024-2025 school year. We are looking for an experienced, innovative teacher who is eager to develop classrooms of belonging where students are ready to take intellectual risks and put their learning into action in the “real” world.
Substitute teachers may also be requested to make themselves available in a reasonably timely manner for meetings with other faculty/staff regarding student support, interdepartmental collaboration, and also by students/parents at their request. Every effort may be made to accommodate substitute teachers’ schedules when scheduling these meetings.
Additional compensation is provided for professional development days, Back to School Night, Frosh Orientation, Graduation, etc. as applicable.
