About the Position:
The Portfolio Accountant I is responsible for overseeing the daily financial operations of assigned rental properties. This includes reviewing and posting A/R, A/P, G/L and tenant ledger activity; monitoring cash accounts; and working closely with property staff and others to resolve issues and ensure compliance with company accounting standards.
Portfolio Accountant Responsibilities
  • Charge batch-prepare, review, and post charge batches.
  • Receipts-review and post daily receipts timely.
  • Payables-familiarity with coding, review, timely posting, and facilitation of payments to vendors.
  • Tenant ledgers-ability to understand ledger balances and resolve discrepancies.
  • Cash Flow- Monitor project cash. Identify and resolve incorrect or missing transactions.
  • Bank Reconciliations-prepare and resolve.
  • Journal Entries-prepare and understand how they affect the trial balance and subsidiary ledgers.
  • Loans-understanding of loan processes, escrow accounts and analysis of escrows.
  • Replacement Reserves-monitoring monthly spreadsheets, submission and monitoring approvals and receipts.
  • Tie Outs-monthly tie outs of loans, escrows, and balance sheet.
  • Reporting-prepare reports and financial documents, including tax documents.
  • Audits-prepare and maintain audit documentation for preliminary and annual audits.
  • Work with assigned property staff and others to assist with new hire training, resolve challenges and communicate concerns.
  • Train and assist coworkers as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Provide appropriate backup for all transactions.
  • Attend weekly department meetings.
General Accounting Expectations
  • Maintain vigilance for any potential fraud and/or non-compliance with company and government guidelines.
  • Immediately report suspected fraud or internal control deficiency to supervisor.
  • Communicate all deficiencies in staff performance with the Assistant Controller.
