This position is Summer only. May 23rd-August 1st.

SUMMARY : The Aim High Flight Academy (AHFA) provides teenagers and young adults from across the United States the opportunity to attend a three-week introductory flight program hosted by California Aeronautical University. Over 3 weeks, students will attend ground courses, earn up to 15 hours of flight time, and learn the pathways to become an aviation professional.

The Flight Camp Counselor facilitates the social, academic, and personal adjustment of Aim High students to the residence hall and University. The Flight Camp Counselor serves as a positive role model to whom Aim High students can turn for support. The Flight Camp Counselor enforces the rules and policies of Housing Services and the University. The Flight Camp Counselor acts as a liaison between Aim High students and the University administration.

The Flight Camp Counselor must uphold the philosophy and mission of the University while instilling a positive and progressive attitude in those visiting the CAU campus.

JOB REQUIREMENTS include but are not limited to the following:

COMPLIANCE:

  • Responsible for compliance with all local, state, accreditation and federal regulations
  • Ensure completeness, accuracy, and security of campus files, documents and reports.
  • Ensure and maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for complete and accurate timekeeping.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Conduct all duties and responsibilities ethically and professionally.
  • Staff administrative responsibilities include an average range of 20-30 active office hours per week, including escorting and monitoring students on field trips.
  • Plan and oversee group activities with Aim High Students.
  • Serve as the primary staff member and first responder for Aim High students.
  • Learn and implement emergency protocol efforts to ensure the safety of Aim High students.
  • Must complete all administrative paperwork and tasks on a regular basis.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment day-to-day and following student activities.
  • Encourage Aim High students’ personal, social and academic development.
  • Refer any disciplinary issues to the appropriate full-time staff member.
  • Ensure student safety through enforcing student curfews and performing nightly rounds.
  • Must have communication methods through phone or email with appropriate full-time staff members.
  • Must perform all emergency and disaster functions such as fire alarms, earthquakes, and other disasters.
  • Must adhere to and enforce all housing and campus policies as well as state laws.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS :

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE :

Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Experience working with high school-aged populations is a plus.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES :

Ability to interact in a pleasant and professional manner with all types of people. Ability to work well under pressure, manage multiple priorities, set and meet deadlines and manage unexpected situations. Strong technology skills necessary.

TRAVEL DEMANDS :

The employee must have the ability to travel to various locations as necessary. Must have a vehicle suitable for safe and secure transportation. Must have a valid driver's license and up to date vehicle insurance. Must be age 21 to comply with California’s vehicle rental requirements. Must be willing to operate a 12-passenger vehicle.

LANGUAGE SKILLS :

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business communications, financial reports, legal documents, and some government reports. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to students, top management and/or public groups.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS :

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY :

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to converse and listen. The employee frequently is required to sit, to handwrite notes, and handle the telephone. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
