Job Title: Customer Support Professional

Reports to: Team Lead

Supervises: None

Location: Hybrid/Remote (local to Kansas City Metro Area)

Compensation details

Pay rate: $22/ hour

Days of operation: Monday - Friday.

Hours operation Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, 40 hrs/wk. (may flex/float only as neededspecify need during interviews)

Job Summary

This position will perform customer service support activities for a regional non-for-profit organization dedicated to sustainable practices in buildings and transportation. This position supports lead generation and a customer service support desk for an important Kansas City program. (More on this program can be found here: https://www.kcmo.gov/programs-initiatives/energy-and-water-benchmarking) It will entail outreach to the real estate community. Daily responsibilities may also include providing technical assistance to clients, which include commercial building owners and facility managers.

The candidate should have a strong customer engagement and sales background and excellent time management skills, including the ability to efficiently guide a client through a complex data entry process. The candidate will be responsible for assisting new and repeat clients. Strong computer skills and adaption to learning new technologies are required. Experience with utility-sponsored energy efficiency programs and energy benchmarking using Energy Star Portfolio Manager is a plus but not a mandatory requirement. Experience using Salesforce or at least another CRM platform ideal. (Candidate must be willing to learn any platform used in the program. Robust training will be provided for this job responsibility.) Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required. Candidates should expect a Pre-Hire Skills Assessment to be administered during the hiring process.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Using a customer lists and historical reporting data, you will identify businesses and buildings that haven't reported energy usage or that have lapsed reporting; conducting research to update contact information and establish or re-establish a reporting contact.
  • Using this list to make "cold" calls to produce leads that may need help complying with the city's ordinance.
  • Act as an Energy Advisor by helping customers identify their unique opportunities under energy efficiency initiatives. (Any training needed in this area will be provided.)
  • Assistance with completing submissions into Energy Star Portfolio Manager to ensure compliance with program guidelines and procedures.
  • Maintain, update, and add entries to the system databases accurately.
  • Provide assistance with customer service, scheduling, Energy Star Portfolio Manager and other issues as needed.
  • Direct communications with customers and trade ally contractors.
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements.
Position Requirements

Basic Qualifications:
  • Strong communication skills, experience with client engagement and coordination
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and SharePoint.
  • Experience with tracking systems and databases
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Good organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships
  • Strong interest in environmental issues.
Desired/Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years of sales or outreach experience
  • 2-3 years' experience in the energy efficiency industry preferred
  • Understanding of energy efficiency technologies and energy-saving solutions a plus
  • Experience interacting with diverse populations and demographic groups
  • 1 years of experience with energy efficiency technologies, Salesforce, and Energy Star Portfolio Manager a plus

  • Comfort with technology-based communication and reporting tools and methods, and adaptable to new technologies
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma.
  • Minimum 2 years of customer service experience.
