Job Summary

The Mesa team is looking for CDL class A drivers! The ideal person will be responsible for facilitating the packing, hauling and movement of goods for Mesa’s customers, making sure all work is performed as efficiently, thoroughly and as safely as possible, including supervision of crew members/packers/warehouse workers assigned to driver’s jobs.

Essential Job Functions

  • Preparing for move at the warehouse by:
    • Understanding assignments and special instructions from dispatch, and communicating that information to crew members, packers, and/or warehouse workers who are assisting on the job
    • Retrieval of correct equipment, packing materials and supplies for the job.
    • Completing pre-trip inspection of vehicle including checking of fluids, lights, brakes, steering, belts, and vehicle damage.
    • Verifying that vehicle has all equipment and supplies necessary
    • Confirming job location and accurate driving directions
  • Preparing to pack the goods to be shipped by:
    • Appropriately introducing self and other crew members to the shipper/customer.
    • Touring the location to identify what is to be packed, any special needs, items not to be packed, non-allowables, those items that are staying with the shipper, and whether shipper is spending the night at the residence.
    • Preparing and protecting location with proper equipment.
    • If Lead Driver, preparing/reviewing preliminary paper work with shipper including signature for valuation of goods and high value inventory signature; confirm crew responsibilities, including labeling direction, with shipper and crew.
    • Distributing packing supplies throughout location including setting up packing work areas, surveying entire area for items to be packed, selecting appropriate cartons per Quality Labor Training, and designating items to be placed in storage.
  • Packing the goods to be shipped by:
    • Securing valuables, packing goods as trained, labeling cartons as trained, double checking room upon completion of packing and walking through with customer.
    • Completing carton inventory, verifying labels, cross-referencing high value items inventory to high value form, and obtaining customer’s signature.
  • Loading or unloading of van by:
    • Knocking down and pad wrapping items in location as trained.
    • Carrying out cartons and furniture to be shipped to the truck in a safe and efficient manner; put in staging area.
    • Instructing crew on loading van; working with crew to load van appropriately.
    • Collecting all packing material from shipper and taking to pack van, removing all trash generated from packing, identifying cartons shipper will need for own use.
    • Walking through location with shipper
    • Completing paperwork and getting signature from shipper.
    • Setting up delivery with shipper.
  • Transporting all goods to the destination; driving in accordance with all laws and regulations including DOT requirements.
  • Unloading van and placing goods in proper location by:
    • Identifying any property damage.
    • Carrying out cartons and furniture to be shipped to the truck in a safe and efficient manner; put in staging area.
    • Reassembling any disassembled items.
    • Doing final walk through with shipper.
    • Cleaning up van at residence
    • If Lead Driver, completing paperwork with shipper
  • Returning van to the warehouse; driving in accordance with all laws and regulations including DOT requirements.
  • Preparing vehicle for next job by:
    • Refueling truck
    • Cleaning out all remaining packing supplies
    • Completing post-trip inspection and paperwork
    • Notifying dispatch of any unsafe conditions
  • Preparing customer goods for storage and transport to warehouse by:
    • Preparing and loading goods into vaults or van in accordance with training
    • Labeling vaults
    • Collecting necessary fees
    • Completing necessary paperwork
    • Assisting warehouse crew as needed
  • Physical Demands
  • Able to lift and carry up to 100 lbs. safely
  • Stooping, standing, reaching
  • Work inside/outside warehouse, at residences, and inside trailers
  • Exposed to temperature extremes
