Mineral Processing & Metallurgy Staff Scientist - NRRI Researcher 3
The salary range for this position starts at $50,000.00/yr and depends on qualifications. Please note that sponsorship is not available for this position

Summary
This junior-level research position supports the Mineral Processing & Metallurgy research team based out of the NRRI Coleraine Laboratory in Coleraine, Minnesota.
The purpose for this role is to support Principal Investigators (PIs) with day-to-day research tasks, such as immediate oversight of research execution, basic data analysis and summary reporting, and installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of research equipment and methods. This role will drive the safe execution of research by creating and managing operational requests and safety/quality related documentation. Tasks assigned to this position will be completed in collaboration with PIs, research staff, research technicians, NRRI Coleraine Operations, and NRRI/UM support functions. Lastly, this role will also provide PIs with publicly available information, such as producing high-level literature and technology reviews.
Job Duties:

  1. Work with team of PIs, researchers, and technicians to plan and execute Minerals research projects in alignment with NRRI Safety/Quality and NRRI Coleraine Operations protocols (60%):
    a. Translate high-level project plans into actionable tasks, including creating detailed project work plans from proposals.
    b. Prepare work requests for staff to execute research tasks.
    c. Accurately analyze and validate research data and write summary reports for PI review/submission to project sponsor.
    d. Assist PIs to install/commission/troubleshoot research equipment and complete Safety/Quality documents.
    e. Assist PIs, Coleraine Operations, and Safety/Quality oversee research equipment calibrations and QA/QC protocols.
    f. Assist PIs in controlling project scope, schedule, budget, and quality in collaboration with research and research support functions.
    g. Understand and follow all Safety/Quality protocols and procedures and contribute to the NRRI Safety culture.
  2. Contribute to conceptualization and preparation of research proposals, manuscripts, and reports (20%).
  3. Conduct literature and technology reviews for PIs and research staff. (10%)
  4. Other duties and assignments that are not specifically described within this job description may be assigned to the role as normal conduct of business and that are appropriate for the role. (10%)

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Engineering or science degree, e.g., Chemical, Metallurgical, or Materials Engineering or related field plus 2 of related experience or combo education experience to equal 6 years.
  • Highly organized, able to multitask, and detail oriented.
  • Effective communicator, both written and orally.
  • Data handling and analysis experience.
  • Experience working within teams.
  • This person will work in an industrial environment and will need to lift 50 lbs., carry, and handle chemicals.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in mineral processing or metallurgy.
  • Project management experience.
  • Hands on research experience.
  • Experience with safe laboratory processes and procedures.
  • Experience with industrial safety and hygiene practices.
