Job Description:
Position Title: Protection Services Assistant Manager
Position Type: Full-time
FLSA Classification: Exempt
Division: Operations and Administration
Department: Protection Services
Reports to: Protection Services Manager
Compensation: $50,000
Position Summary
The Protection Services Assistant Manager is responsible for assisting the Protection Services Manager with the oversight of all Protection Services (security and life safety) for the campus facilities, trails, art collections, guests, volunteers, and staff at Crystal Bridges and other sites when necessary. The Assistant Manager will actively assist in managing all full-time, part-time and contract department personnel. This includes hiring, ensuring the establishment and communication of performance objectives, assessing performance, training, coaching, and all other employment matters for department staff. The role requires exceptional management and leadership skills with colleagues, staff, volunteers and guests, and an eagerness to develop a robust team of committed Protection Services professionals. The Assistant Manager will also develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures as they pertain to security and life safety issues.
Position's Principal Responsibilities
  • Manage the operations of Protection Services by directly or indirectly supervising Protection Services Supervisors, Protection Services Associates, Control Room Operators and Contracted Security Staff.
  • Recruit, select, train, coach, mentor, and counsel Protection Services Staff and Supervisors. Participate in one-on-one development programs.
  • Plan and implement a comprehensive and on-going training program for all departmental personnel and other necessary staff.
  • Ensure Protection Services staff schedule is created, posted and accurate.
  • Oversee the day-to-day well-being of the Protection Services staff.
  • Assist in the development of emergency procedures and emergency drills. Additionally, assist in the development of training documents and programs to support emergency procedures.
  • Assist in the development of all standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines for Protection Services and ensure compliance to such standards by museum staff.
  • Assist in managing Protection Services operating budgets and participate in the overall capital budget process.
  • Assist in planning for, directing, and managing the staff and operations of the Protection Services department to provide 24 hour-a-day protection and security.
  • Coordinate security for all events, exhibits, and day-to-day operations in a manner which ensures the safety of the public, staff, and the protection of works of art.
  • Assist in the development of security and safety plans for major events.
  • Assist in the oversight of the museum's fleet of vehicles to include maintenance schedules, key control, training, registrations, and insurance.
  • Consult and collaborate with the Exhibitions and Curatorial Departments and other operations staff to define security needs for exhibitions, including reviewing the layout of new exhibitions in advance of installation.
  • Understand contract requirements from lending institutions to ensure security requirements are met and provide recommendations to meet exhibition needs.
  • Assist in the planning and development of Protection Services interests for all projects.
  • Participate in all necessary meetings with internal departments.
  • Participate in the review process and goal establishment for Protection Services supervisors and Protection Services Associates.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Proactively seek and obtain information regarding Museum policies, promotions, activities, and events in order to provide a high level of customer service.
  • Act as a liaison between local and federal law enforcement and other public safety officials and the campus.
  • Assist in sensitive investigations.
  • Assist in risk management.
Minimum Qualifications
Education, Training, and Traits:
  • Bachelor or Associate degree or two years related experience and/or training in security and/or customer service required
  • Highest ethic of standards as they relate to all aspects of business
  • Enthusiasm about being a member of a team with a strong visitor-centered dynamic
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Office required
  • Demonstrate qualities of an effective leader: empathy, team builder, mentor, critical thinker
Work Experience:
  • Minimum two (2) year of positive supervisory experience required
  • Minimum two (2) years security and/or customer service experience required
  • Museum security experience preferred
  • Experience with access control systems, fire control systems, radios, and CCTV.
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Valid Driver's License required
  • Certification related to the security field preferred
Mobile Device Stipend Program
This position is eligible to participate in the Mobile Device Stipend Program. Your manager will explain the departmental expectations of returning calls, responding to texts and responding to emails. The expectations may vary depending on the needs of Crystal Bridges and the responsibilities of the position. A signed agreement must be submitted to HR prior to participating in the program.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • Physical demands: In the work environment described below, position requires verbal and written conversation with others, sitting, standing, walking, bending, climbing, reaching, strenuous lifting/moving objects up to 50 pounds, and use of hands to finger, handle, or fell objects, tools, or controls. Vision abilities required by the job include close vision.
  • Work Environment: Work will be performed in an office environment, Museum spaces, construction sites, and in communities served. Work environment may include exposure to potentially hazardous chemical solutions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Position requires some independent overnight travel. On 24-hour emergency call by telephone and/or cell phone required. Incumbent must meet a flexible work schedule including evenings, weekends, occasional overnights and be available on-call for emergencies.
