BRAIN INJURY SERVICES is Hiring an Activity Coordinator (Part-time) Near Fredericksburg, VA

Description

Brain Injury Services (BIS) helps children and adults with a brain injury build the skills and confidence they need to lead a fulfilling and productive life.

Under general supervision of the Program Manger, the Activity Coordinator is a part time position, responsible for the implementation and development of day program activities for persons with brain injuries and ensures that all activities planned are done so to help participants achieve their individual goals and the organizational mission. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Ensure that all program activities are based on the needs of the participants and are designed to help them achieve their personal goals.
  • In collaboration with the Community Coordinator and Program Manager: to develop, implement and coordinate all program activities based upon the needs and interests of clients. 
  • Maintain up to 5 program client records as designated staff contact
  • Complete monthly documentation and communication tasks with designated clients 
  • Complete all weekly maintenance related duties with planned activities 
  • Complete all weekly supply planning, pick-up, and mailing duties as assigned
  • Complete all Program Tour, related case management system documentation, and admissions packet documents with clients as assigned
  • Facilitate hybrid model activities on a weekly basis as assigned 
  • Assist in the implementation of Vocation Transition Program (VTP) and/or Employment Development Services (EDS) activities as needed
  • Implement behavior interventions based on positive behavioral support methodology as needed
  • Document and support client Individual Service Plan (ISP) development 
  • Offer individual meeting sessions for staff contact clients as needed 
  • Participate in staff development activities, meetings, and program conferences as needed 
  • Assist with regular program evaluation and quality improvement initiatives
  • Assist with fundraising activities
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification, Brain Injury Fundamentals Training, StarCraft Vehicle Operations Training, and ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification

Requirements

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in special education, rehabilitation counseling, social work or a closely related field is preferred. A minimum of one-year experience providing community-based services to persons with disabilities, preferably those with brain injuries, is highly desirable. Preference will be given to those applicants with experience in community-based day programs, and knowledge of person-centered practices.

Knowledge of:

  • Medical and psycho-social aspects of brain injury
  • ADA and other laws/regulations that promote and/or protect the rights of persons with disabilities
  • Brain injury 

Skills in:

  • Effective verbal and written communication with clients and support personnel
  • Identifying and developing interagency relationships
  • Identifying the relevant documentation necessary to support a brain injury 
  • Operating Microsoft Office applications, such as Excel, PowerPoint & Word 
  • Utilizing communication platforms, such as Microsoft Teams & Zoom

Ability to:

  • Engage and manage several diverse activities in an average work week
  • Communicate effectively with diverse groups or individuals
  • Engage in moderate physical activity as needed
  • Ability to maintain a safe driving record and operate a 12 passenger vehicle 

Must be able to work in-person in Fredericksburg, VA 

Must be able to work a regular 20-hour per week schedule - for example: M/W 9am-3pm and Th 8am-4pm

Celebrating 25 years of service to the Northern Virginia community, Brain Injury Services helps children and adults with a brain injury build the skills and confidence they need to lead a fulfilling and productive life. Brain Injury Services is proud to be the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce 2014 Nonprofit of the Year. The organization was the first community-based brain injury case management program of its' kind in Virginia. It was instrumental in providing guidance to other communities across the Commonwealth who now uitlize this model program. In 2002, Brain Injury Services was awarded ...a Commonwealth Neurotrauma Initiative Grant to establish the first pediatric brain injury case management program. The organization now serves all of Northern Virginia, Fredericksburg and surrounding Counties including Culpeper and Fauquier. It added specialized programs over the years to include: day programs, supported living services, supported employment, volunteer programs, PALS, Speakers Bureau, therapeutic groups, Assistive Technology, "Money Follows the Person" coordination and other services as needed. In 2010, BIS was awarded the Civil Justice Foundation's 20 Years of Excellence in Vancouver, British Columbia. Brain Injury Services provides brain injury education through conferences including a partnership with Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center's TBI Model Systems to put on an annual conference in Williamsburg each year.
