Position Title: Youth Development Program Coordinator (Sports & Recreation)

Type: Full Time (During the school year, approximately 35 hours/week and in the summer, approximately 40 hours/week)

Location: Bruce W. Nagel Unit (311 S. Oneida St, Green Bay, WI 54303)
Schedule: Academic Year: Mon–Thr 1:30–8:00pm, F 1:30-6:00pm; Summer and Non-School Days 7:00am–3:00pm or 9:00am-5:00pm.

As a Youth Development Program Coordinator- Sports & Recreation,you will utilize a combination of national, local, and self-developed curricula that attempt to integrate the fundamental concepts of education, the arts, humanities, technology, mental and physical well-being with youth development principles, sparking young people’s creativity and building critical learning and life skills. A candidate will be successful if they develop a program that:

  • Provides safe and healthy spaces for youth
  • Is asset based and youth driven
  • Fosters the development of positive relationships and social skills
  • Sets high expectations for growth and learning
  • Is holistic and inclusive to youth of all ages

Key Responsibilities

  • Plans, prepares, creates, organizes and delivers weekly lessons, activities, and games in the relam of sports & recreation that are rooted in the concepts of experiential and project-based learning and promote and stimulate participation.
  • Instructs and directs varied activities, applying effective classroom management.
  • Implements and administers sports, fitness, and active recreation programs and activities for organized leagues, drop-in members, and visitors.
  • Ensures programs, services and activities that prepare youth for success, promoting safety of members and quality in program at all times. Provides guidance and role modeling to members.
  • Ensures quality improvement by monitoring and evaluating program achievement against target goals, recommending modifications that respond to member needs and interests and participating in weekly staff meetings.
  • Works with community organizations to provide or expand co-curricular programming which supports student success.
  • Ensures a healthy and safe environment, supervising members in program area.

Skills and Knowledge

  • High school diploma or GED. (2-4 year college degree preferred)
  • Ability to motivate youth and handle behavior problems.
  • Ability to deal with the general public.
  • Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
  • Ability to work with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work clubhouse hours especially as seasons and service needs change.
  • Knowledge of youth development
  • Experience developing and implementing organized sports leagues and athletics programs, preferably in non-profit setting and /or programs for children/teens
