Staff Accountant


SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Controller and in accordance with policies and procedures of the Episcopal Homes of Minnesota (EHM), generally accepted accounting principles, and State and Federal regulations - this position assists the Controller with the management of fiscal reporting, the audit function, budgeting, financial analysis, regulatory reporting and administrative functions.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Always incorporates the EHM mission, vision, and values philosophy into the delivery of high-quality services to our stakeholders - residents, staff, community, and payers/providers/vendors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial operations for the monthly accounting close process
  • Support the close process within the designated time frame while taking ownership of the assigned tasks related to the month-end close
  • Monitor fixed asset changes and monthly depreciation.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations, prepaid expenses, and prepaid insurance.
  • Monitor monthly account reconciliations, review sub-ledger data and resolve reconciling items.
  • Replenish and reconcile resident trust boxes and issue quarterly statements.
  • Assist in the preparation and auditing of Medicare and Medicaid cost reports.
  • Support AP, AR, and Payroll functions as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

KEY PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to manage and succeed as a team.
  • Proactive and able to organize and prioritize tasks or projects.
  • Ability to gather and analyze details, ensuring accurate results.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and written and provide clear and detailed information to business unit leaders and Finance staff.
  • Be flexible with changing decisions as the business demands.
  • Capacity to learn new systems and processes as the business grows.
  • Friendly, positive outlook, and show initiative and commitment.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Requires Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • Requires 5 years GAAP Experience
  • Requires 1 years general ledger or operational finance experience
  • Exceptional Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience in Microsoft Business Central a plus
  • Experience in Healthcare preferred.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports directly to the Controller. Direct reports include: None. Due to nature of position, will interact occasionally with most other executives and managers throughout the organization.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Demonstrated experience with excel spreadsheet and financial analysis and graphing skills (pivot tables, V-lookups, multi-sheet linking, etc.), database application skills for data gathering and on-demand report writing, PowerPoint is helpful. Must be able to read, clearly speak and understand English, perform basic and intermediate math (add, subtract, multiply, divide, fractions, percentages, decimals, algebra.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to sit for long periods of time. Some standing, walking, bending, climbing, and pushing/pulling or lifting/lowering of up to 20 pounds. Moderate repetitive motions with hands, wrists, or arms, primarily from the use of computers, printers, telephones.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed mostly in an office environment with little or no exposure to physical hazards. Must be able to work in a remote-enabled environment with video conferencing, internally and externally.
