Job DescriptionResearch Associate
The Boston College William F. Connell School of Nursing invites applications for a resourceful and well-organized Research Associate to work with Dr. Nadia Abuelezam. The Research Associate will be involved in every aspect of research examining the incorporation of structural causes (like racism) into mathematical models of infectious disease transmission. Dr. Abuelezam is an infectious disease epidemiologist with a strong publication record in both mathematical modeling and health inequities. She is committed to training the next generation of public health leaders and scholars. This opportunity is well suited to individuals interested in pursuing future careers/degrees in public health and/or data analytics.
This work is funded by an R35 through NIGMS. The Research Associate will be a vital member of a multidisciplinary team and will be responsible for implementing, executing, and completing research projects according to a strict timeline and budget. The Research Associate will be responsible for completing research analyses and mathematical modeling independently (with guidance from the PI). In addition to coding and data analysis, the research associate will be responsible for manuscript preparation. As needed, the Research Associate will be able to work with undergraduate research assistants to help complete their research priorities. The position may involve travel to national meetings once to twice per year. Women and applications from under-represented backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.

RequirementsRequirements:
  • Master's Degree in epidemiology, (bio)statistics, ,data science, or a similar quantitative discipline
  • Prior experience in scientific research, developing research questions, and writing scientific manuscripts
  • Understanding and implementation of statistical concepts and methodologies using well documented code
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g. R, Python, C/C , Matlab)
  • Experience in finding, processing and analyzing large datasets
  • Ability to conduct literature searches and produce reviews
  • Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills in English
  • Strong commitment to dismantling structural racism
  • Strong motivation for independent learning
