POSITION SUMMARY:

This position provides oversight and leadership of assigned departments and operations at Harbour View Medical Center. This position is also responsible for managing assigned operating functions of Harbour View Medical Center.

As a part of the operations management team in providing leadership to these areas, the incumbent participates in strategic planning and ensures the development, implementation and evaluation of policies, programs and services which are consistent with the Bon Secours Hampton Roads Health System’s mission, strategic plans, resource allocation, management plan, budget, medical staff relations and other activities for appropriate coordination of patient care and operational needs. The incumbent will help in establishing policies and procedures and standards of practice for assigned support departments in coordination with designated patient care staff and in conjunction with outlined processes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Position provides oversight and leadership of assigned duties

  • Organizes, plans, and directs personnel to comply with the established policies, procedures, and standards. Manages behaviors accordingly.

  • Establishes, monitors, and evaluates the care delivery systems.

  • Collaborates with management staff to develop goals and objectives according to the strategic quality plan, operational and capital budgets, and continuous quality improvement plans for their areas of responsibility.

  • Interviews, selects, develops and evaluates management and non-management personnel. 

  • Identifies potential sources of revenue enhancement and expense reduction, develops and implements plans or programs to improve financial outcomes in operational departments.

  • Coordinates operational functions within areas of responsibility.

  • Works with senior management staff and physicians, attorneys, accounting and planning personnel, and other appropriate individuals to develop and negotiate agreements for new Hospital services.

  • Directs and/or conducts determination of need, cost benefit analysis, profitability, and financial modeling for proposed projects.

  • Analyzes assigned opportunities and problems and makes recommendations for action as assigned by the COO.

  • Collaborates with operational management staff to develop goals and objectives according to the strategic quality plan, operational and capital budgets, and continuous quality improvement plans for their areas of responsibility.

  • Lead and participate in system initiatives including but not limited to: BSR Optimization Committee, BSR Stewardship Committee, Other BSR, BSV and BSHSI committees as directed by the COO

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters of Health Administration or Business Administration required.

  • Expertise and experience in project management with ability to manage multiple processes and projects. 

  • Demonstrated excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

  • Commitment to a person-centered, faith based, mission centered philosophy.

  • Work requires at least 5 years healthcare experience, preferably within hospital operations.

  • Previous work experience in financial management, strategic planning, physician relations and personnel supervision and practice is preferred.

  • Work requires experience with organizational and hospital operations; coordination of multiple operating units; service delivery to varying patient, physician, employee, and public populations. This knowledge and experience is generally acquired through more than five years experience in healthcare, with progressively more responsible experience.
