As a Writer/Editor , you will: * Research and write about the implications of science for law enforcement professionals and policy makers . * Be familiar with the scientific methods and the application of science to law enforcement . * Write and edit content for peer-reviewed academic journals , working closely with subject matter experts. * Interview subject matter experts ; to gather, organize and synthesize scientific information * Have demonstrated experience communicating complex scientific findings to lay audiences. * Provide editorial support including the drafting, reviewing, and editing of content . * E stablish and maintain editorial and style standards . * Track deliverables and maintain progress reports. * Attend on-site workshops and presentations in Washington, D.C. as requested (must reside in the Washington, D.C. metro area). Basic Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in c ommunications, English , j ournalism, or a closely related field * Five years of experience in forensics, life or physical sciences, or social and behavioral sciences * F ive y ears of experience writing and editing professional publications and other documents ; portfolio with writing samples * Five or more years writing and editing skills * Three or more years in the GPO Style Manual and APA Style * Three or more years with the Microsoft Office Suite(Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) * Able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Clearance (federal government background check) * Must be located in the DMV area for on site visits Preferred Skills and Experience: * A self-starter with the ability to support multiple priorities * Experience working successfully in a team environment * Excellent customer service skills * Proficiency in the following Microsoft Office applications: Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint * Experience supporting a government or federal agency Job Location: Washington, D.C.
