Position Summary:

We are looking for a dedicated individual to oversee and coordinate the yard team and activities related to yard organization, crane rigging, lifting, and equipment operation. As the Yard Supervisor, you will be crucial in maintaining a safe and productive working environment, ensuring compliance with safety procedures and efficient resource utilization. Coaching, mentoring, training, disciplining, and other effective personnel management methods will be crucial for success in this role.

Supervision and Coordination:

  • Supervise and coordinate yard workers and crews responsible for rigging, lifting, and equipment operations.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, method statements, and heavy lift plans.
  • Collaborate with A&D and Shop managers to schedule crane departures and arrivals, ensuring thorough inspections and readiness by designated deadlines.
  • Assist yard leads in managing schedules and workloads effectively to maintain high-quality output.
  • Streamline yard processes to prevent truck detention and optimize operational capacity.
  • Conduct interviews, oversee hiring, provide training, offer mentoring and coaching, and administer disciplinary actions to nurture a skilled and motivated team.

Equipment Operation:

  • Ensure that all Yard personnel follow correct lifting equipment procedures, encompassing crane setup, rigging, flagging, and lifting operations.
  • Operate cranes, forklifts, and yard mules to lead the team in loading/unloading cranes and associated equipment.
  • Collaborate with the Training Team to ensure team members possess the necessary skills and actively support their professional development.

Equipment Maintenance:

  • Ensure work crews have adequate tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Prevent the misuse of equipment, materials, and tools.
  • Implement a preventive maintenance (PM) schedule for all yard equipment.

Machinery Movement:

  • Specify precise locations for the movement of machinery, utilizing expertise in various sliding and lifting equipment methods.

Safety Compliance:

  • Enforce strict compliance with all safety procedures, company rules, and regulations.
  • Promote and cultivate a safety-first culture within the yard, emphasizing the importance of safety as a core value.

Other Duties:

  • Perform any other duties as assigned by senior management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

Essential:

  • 10 years of experience with lattice boom crawler cranes
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with Liebherr and Kobelco crawlers, especially between 100-330 tons
  • Proficient in operating and managing various crane attachments, including luffing jibs, fixed jibs, roosters, blocks, balls, wagons, trays, mid-points, counterweights, and other accessories.
  • Skilled in inspecting booms and attachments for damage such as dents and rust, ensuring they meet specifications, and collaborating with welding team leads to facilitate timely repairs.
  • Demonstrated team leadership and development expertise with over 8 years of supervisory experience. Proficient in interviewing, motivating, training, and implementing disciplinary actions.
  • Strong organizational abilities encompassing the creation of yard diagrams, regular equipment, tools, timber, and general yard cleanup, spanning multiple locations.
  • Preferred experience managing team leads and a proven track record of adapting to new team dynamics and cultures to drive positive change.
  • Proficient in basic computer skills and excellent oral and written communication abilities.

Physical Demands:

  • Approximately 10% of time spent in usual office conditions.
  • Approximately 90% of the time is spent in external conditions, including temperature variances and elevated noise levels.
