Boston Centerless1 is Hiring a Materials Buyer Near Woburn, MA

POSITION: Materials Buyer REPORTS TO: Materials ManagerSUMMARY: This position supports manufacturing by matching customer requirements to shop floor capacity and material availability. This individual will be the primary contact to suppliers in order to assure on time delivery, correct material selection, and match supplier and pricing to meet customer expectations. The Buyer will be responsible for all material related processes including purchasing, supplier selection, inventory control, and outside services to assure material is available to allow for production time to meet customer delivery expectations. This individual must be a self-starter and will be responsible for performance metrics related to inventory control (safety stock item levels) and delivery inside the factory, as well as supplier performance data and reporting, and should establish routine supplier performance reviews and corrective action plans.REQUIREMENTS / BACKGROUND:
  • Deep knowledge of materials science and composition i.e. chemical engineering of metals
  • Deep knowledge of internal ERP system (Made2Manage)
  • Extensive knowledge of manufacturing ISO and lean manufacturing techniques
  • Direct experience with Mill Direct Materials
  • Extensive knowledge of the metals industry and specific products related to the industry
  • Thorough knowledge of inventory control, materials management, and purchasing/sourcing outside test and services suppliers.
  • Knowledge of Budgeting and Estimation protocols
  • Deep knowledge of Supply Chain Planning
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively across the organization.

  • Must have a high level of professionalism and positive attitude with the ability to foster relationships throughout the company.
  • Must be flexible with high energy, ability to teach, and handle multiple tasks smoothly.
  • Must be detail oriented and able to manage daily updates of inventory and purchasing data, order status and delivery information in support of manufacturing.
  • Ability to work with suppliers effectively to demand world class performance while building good working and business relationships to develop supply for long term growth plans.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage the forecasting process for short term and long term visibility
  • Manage priorities within materials group including expediting deliveries, assuring accuracy of reports and continuous materials status.
  • Must interface with Sales, Production Control, Operations, and Quality to assure real time support of transactional orders to assure just in time delivery; will be primary company interface with suppliers.
  • Drive cost reductions while maintaining delivery and quality requirements.
 
  • Maintain business relationships with supply base to assure best delivery and pricing available in support of long-term company growth plans.
  • Establish programs to optimize pricing, delivery, and volume purchases to assure material availability.
  • Oversee the purchasing of all materials (manufacturing and operational/ MRO) which best suit the overall buying strategy.
  • Review and resolve certification issues between customer, sales, supplier and quality.
  • Work with suppliers to establish standard lead times, expedited delivery schedules, tier pricing for volume or special purchases as applicable.
  • Maintain supplier performance data including delivery, lead time, quality, and certifications.
  • Oversee the materials RMA system to monitor material returns to supplier and follow up for replacement material as needed. Work with QA and operations to handle materials vendor related claims, returns and rework issues.
  • Maintain supplier quality reports, up to date ISO compliance and procedures and material certifications and test data.
