Bend Surgery Center is Hiring a Pre-Admission Testing RN - Full time Near Bend, OR

Position is full time, 32 hours per week. Set schedule, 4 days a week, 8 hours a day. 10:30am to 7:00pm

Stated salary is starting pay range.

JOB SUMMARY: Pre Admission Testing Nurse is responsible for contacting incoming patients to obtain and review health history. Analyses and assess clinical data related to the patient’s anesthesia risk and appropriateness of ASC site of service. Orders additional testing needed prior to surgery when necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, Licensure and Certification:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and currently licensed to practice in the State of Oregon.
  • Must maintain BLS certification.

Experience: Two (2) years medical-surgical nursing experience required.

Physical:

  • Must be able to Sit, stand, walk, and perform keyboard operation continually
  • Occasionally bend, climb, reach overhead, carry/push or pull 1-10 pounds, grasping/squeezing
  • Rarely stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, carry, push or pull 11-15 pounds
  • Must be able to speak and hear normal auditory levels

Mental:

  • Must have excellent communication skills
  • Ability to interact with a diverse population professionally
  • Ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels within Bend Surgery Center and external customers, clients and potential employees
  • Strong team working and collaborative skills
  • Must be able to problem solve and execute resolution

Mathematical skills:Basic math skills

Language skills:Ability to understand, read, write, and speak English.

Reasoning ability:Ability to recognize and define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and correct errors. Ability to think critically using inductive and deductive reasoning.

  • Proficient in computer software and database skills, ability to carry out basic office functions

  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively and efficiently in a fast paced environment
  • Comprehensive and current knowledge of nursing theory
  • Adequate understanding of operative procedures, required patient preparations and expected post-operative course
  • Adequate understanding of a wide variety of medical-surgical pathophysiology
  • Knowledge should be up-to-date on the actions of all pharmaceuticals and anesthetic agents
  • Able to perform accurate and complete patient assessments
  • Skilled in age-based competencies

JOB RELATIONSHIPS: Is responsible to the Nurse Manager who oversees the Call Room, or acting Nurse Manager. Does not supervise other employees.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interviews patient and/or significant other determining physical status, medical history and psychosocial needs relative to patient's procedure
  • Reviews patient record for previously documented information, medical history and medical questionnaire forms to utilize Bend Surgery Center Criteria to determine if patients are in the correct care setting
  • Interact with physician to determine appropriate level of anesthesia required for incoming patients
  • Identifies patient's knowledge deficits, anticipates patient's needs and potential complications
  • Receives and communicates pertinent assessment data with appropriate health care team members
  • Obtains, places and transcribes patient orders electronically for pre-procedure testing, as well as day of service orders
  • Clarifies and arranges testing to be completed for patient as required; coordinates with physician offices, clinics, etc. Monitors and reviews results of pre-procedure testing, including notifying physicians of abnormal test results
  • Retrieves and assess patient’s preadmission test results and report any concerns to the physician and anesthesia provider
  • Attests patient is fully prepared for upcoming procedure and educates patient regarding time of check in, duration of procedure, and answers their questions.
  • Instructs patient regarding diet/fluid intake and medications to continue/stop taking prior to procedure
  • Prepares patients for surgery by reviewing preoperative instructions
  • Keeps work area need and clean; stocks and restocks as required
  • Promotes patient and physician satisfaction
  • Follows all rules and regulations for PHI and HIPAA protections of patient information
  • Follows all policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, attendance, timeliness, and safeguarding confidential information
  • Reports incidents in a timely manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned
