Mission Statement: Bay Cove Human Services partners with people to overcome challenges and realize personal potential.Job Summary: As a member of the multidisciplinary ACCS Integrated Team, the Substance Abuse Counselor provides direct intervention with Persons to conduct comprehensive assessments, treatment plans, and clinical interventions, as well as providing modeling and supervision to direct care staff regarding the implementation of interventions designed to address substance use issues. The Substance Abuse Counselor contributes to Bay Cove’s mission by partnering with Persons to work towards personal goals in order to achieve greater independence and improved quality of life. This is an exempt position.Supervisory Responsibilities:At the discretion of the ACCS Clinical Services Director. Essential Functions of the Position:Perform as the Primary Clinician as assigned by the ACCS Integrated Team Director for a caseload not to exceed 28 Persons specifically working with Persons for whom substance use treatments and approaches is one of the primary identified service needs and as the Primary Clinician on the Engagement Team of each assigned PersonUpon admission and regularly thereafter, conduct and document routine substance use screening and assessment of Persons served by the Integrated Team to inform clinical formulations that address the level of use, the potential risks and the current impact of substances or potentially addictive behavior. Readiness for change and stage of treatment will be evaluated in order to closely track progress.Knowledgeably incorporate the practices and philosophies of Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral for Treatment (SBIRT), Stages of Change, Motivational Interviewing, Harm Reduction, Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), Seeking Safety, Trauma Recovery and Empowerment Model (TREM) and Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA) into treatment planning and the selection of interventions based on each Persons’ assessed readiness and expressed interest in order to support readiness, relapse prevention, and long-term recovery. Employ outreach strategies to engage Persons who are active users in earlier stages of change readiness and utilize motivational interviewing techniques in working with those who may be contemplating change.Provide specialized consultation and training for the Integrated Team via 1) modeling of behaviors and attitudes consistent with the integrated dual disorder treatment model, 2) provision of informal and ad hoc assistance with specific Persons during team meeting and treatment planning meetings, 3) provision of formal training (e.g., didactic, skill-based teaching) and psychoeducation to other team members at least once every six months, and 4) teaching, modeling, and supervising direct care members regarding the implementation of interventions to address substance use.Participate on the Engagement Team of assigned persons as directed by the ACCS Clinical Service DirectorCollaborate with Care Coordination Entities to ensure access to appropriate community-based clinical, self-help, and peer modalities to support treatment and relapse prevention.Collaborate with Care Coordination Entities and other providers to ensure access to appropriate medical, clinical, self-help, and peer modalities during times of crisis, care transitions, other life transitions and changes in health status.Contribute to the overall functioning of the Integrated Team by sharing in the administrative responsibilities and on-call coverage on a rotating basis as assigned.on a rotating basis as assigned.Provide crisis assessment, prevention, and needed intervention during the work day and while on-call on nights and weekends as scheduled.Complete all assigned documentation, including assessments, treatment plans, service notes, incident reports in a thorough and timely manner. Utilize recovery-oriented language and principles in all communication and interactions with Persons, colleagues, and collaterals.Perform other duties as assigned by supervisorRequirements for the Position:A Master’s Degree in Behavioral Science with 18 Graduate Semester Hours in Counseling required for LADC I or CADC-II. A Bachelors can be substituted for LADC II or CADC with an additional 2 years of experience.Valid licensure as a Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor (LADC I) or CADC-II required.LADC II or CADC can be substituted for LADC I with an additional 2 years of experience but will result in a pay differential as these credentials do not qualify as an LPHA.At least one year of experience working with individuals diagnosed with severe mental health issues strongly preferred.Strong commitment to the right of each Person with mental health challenges to live in community residences, to work in market jobs, and to have access to helpful, adequate, competent, and continuous supports and services of their own choosing.Professional writing and verbal communications skills.High degree of personal organization, attention to detail, and time management skills.Proficiency in word processing and other computer functions using Windows, Word, and Google Email and Apps.Ability to climb stairs and carry up to 40 pounds, as well as the physical capacity to assist people with mobility impairments as needed.Use of personal cellular telephone for work communication.Valid driver's license preferred.Bilingual candidates encouraged to apply, pay differential offered for candidates with fluency in certain essential languages.Mission Traits:Utilizes a flexible and responsible work style that meets evolving needs of the agency.
