Bay Area Discovery Museum is Hiring a Lead Summer Preschool Teacher Near Sausalito, CA

POSITION SUMMARY

Come join us as a Lead Teacher for the summer (6/3/2024-8/9/2024) at our Preschool Summer Camp where you will engage and lead our campers through the fun of daily summer activities! Lead Preschool Teachers will design play-based, emergent curriculum forour three-year-old participantswithin the natural setting of BADM and Fort Baker. Teachers support and guide children’s experiences as they play, learn, and grow together!

KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures the safety and supports the wellbeing (emotional, physical, cognitive, and behavioral) of all children enrolled in the program. 
  • Works collaboratively with preschool camp team in thoughtful and creative planning and preparing of play-based, emergent learning activities and curriculum development.
  • Maintains a fun, positive, and friendly demeanor. 
  • Builds positive, supportive relationships with families.
  • Participates in regular communication with families regarding the daily preschool experiences.
  • Collaboratively writes regular reflections, sharing documentation of preschool experiences to serve as digital communication with all families.
  • Mentor junior staff employed as Junior Camp Facilitators.
  • Communicates and works collaboratively with all other museum departments.
  •  Ensure each child is signed in and out each day by an adult caregiver.

Other duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must enjoy working with young children in open-ended learning activities.
  • LiveScan and criminal record clearance through DOJ Child Abuse Index as well as proof of absence of tuberculosis (TB) are required before starting employment.
  • Minimum of 12 completed ECE units required
  • Must be trained or commit to being trained in First Aid, CPR and AED for adultinfant, and child
  • Superiocustomer service skills.
  • Abides by and enforces BADM’s health and safety protocols.
  • Ability to use computer equipment required (Microsoft Word, Excel, Zoom, and Google Docs) 
  • Must work well with a variety of people from various backgrounds and cultures. 
  • Flexible, good-humored, team player with a strong work ethic
  • Ability to assess appropriate behavior and apply behavior modifying techniques when needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee is required to:

  • Be able to travel to and work onsite at the Bay Area Discovery Museum. 
  • Ability to move from place to place, work outdoors, bend and lift and carry up to 35 pounds short distances.
  • Read and understand documents containing text and/or numbers.
  • Walk and sit, as well as to lift and carry objects. 
  • Grasp, handle, or feel; reach, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
  • Lift 10 pounds and may occasionally be required to lift up to 35 pounds. 
  • Have the ability to work outdoors in inclement weather.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, twist and lift.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Works in a combination of indoor and outdoor environments, including occasional high noise levels, widely varying temperatures, varying levels of light, and inclement weather. Will be required to perform work duties in full view of the public, while adhering to the Museum’s customer service standards.
