Description
As a Food Safety & Quality Assurance Specialist, you will be a key member of the Quality.
This role will focus on the Quality Control Systems at our new Headquarter Offices and Pilot Plants; you will support central quality evaluation of products produced by Eat JUST as well as Quality programs for Downstream Partners and Contract Manufacturing locations. Our ideal candidate will be a self-starter that is able to work effectively and in close collaboration with internal and cross-functional team members and disciplines.
What you'll do
Pilot Plants, Kitchens, Laboratories, Downstream Partners
  • Provide monitoring, inspection and auditing of pilot plant activities and programs to ensure compliance to Eat Just requirements:
    • Ensure effectiveness of pest control and prevention programs.
    • Conduct environmental monitoring for microbiological contaminants.
    • Provide guidance on good manufacturing practices and sanitation.
    • Assure compliance to 5S standards.
    • Prepare, collect, review as assigned quality records for pilot operations and facility controls.
  • Serve as PCQI for corporate Eat Just needs
  • Stay up-to-date with local, state, and federal regulations governing food safety and quality. Ensure that the company complies with all relevant laws and regulations, and provide guidance on necessary adjustments to procedures and practices.
Quality Assurance Programs
  • Assist the quality control process from raw material to finished product distribution. Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure adherence to quality standards and identify areas for improvement.
  • Design, implement, and maintain food safety programs in accordance with regulatory requirements and industry standards. This includes HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) plans, sanitation procedures, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify potential hazards and develop strategies to mitigate risks. Develop crisis management protocols to address food safety incidents or product recalls promptly and effectively.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure the quality and safety of raw materials and ingredients. Establish and maintain supplier quality agreements, conduct supplier audits, and address any quality issues in a timely manner.
  • Collect and analyze data related to food safety and quality metrics. Generate reports on key performance indicators, trends, and areas of concern. Use data insights to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Train employees on food safety protocols, hygiene practices, and quality control procedures. Develop training materials and conduct regular training sessions to ensure staff understanding and compliance.
  • Report, analysis and resolve customer complaints for finished product and work with downstream partners to assess root cause and corrective action/preventative actions.
  • On-site audits and troubleshooting with downstream partners for all Eat Just finished product.
Product Support Programs
  • Conduct shelf-life studies to assure and confirm the safety and performance of our products. Align and coordinate with Sensory Evaluation staff for consumer preference testing.
  • Test product samples for sensory, chemistry and physical characteristics. Coordinate microbiological testing with outside laboratories including sample preparation, shipping and data management.
Cross-functional
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams including production, procurement, research and development, and regulatory affairs to ensure alignment on food safety and quality objectives.
For all areas, you will prepare accurate, timely reports on your findings and data, Including appropriate analysis and Interpretation.
This is not a comprehensive list and willingness and ability to change responsibilities and focuses is a mandatory part of this role.
What you'll bring
Education and Experience
  • Associate degree required, Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or similar area preferred;
  • 3 years of progressive food industry experience in food safety and quality assurance.
  • Experience in laboratory analysis including calibrations and controls.
  • You are organized with experience creating and maintaining accurate and timely records.
  • Certified or willing to certify as a Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI);
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and produce data as it relates to trends; statistical training strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of statistical applications including process control, data analysis, sampling and experimental design preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral. You are a self-starter that hyper collaborative with the ability to effectively across disciplines and the organization to set the gold standard for quality and food safety.
  • Creative, critical thinker; you are proactive, tireless, and have a hands-on approach to achieve company objectives while taking a practical and systems-based approach to problem solving and prevention.
  • Ability to be accountable, highly adaptable, flexible and strict while maintaining the mindset of providing solutions as needed.
  • Expected Travel for this position: ~ 30%
Additional Information & Requirements
This is a regular full-time role reporting to our new headquarters and pilot facilities in Alameda, CA with the expectation to be 100% onsite. The salary for this position ranges between $90,000- $110,000 annually based on region and experience.
Scheduled work will primarily be during normal business hours however there may be a need to respond to after hours, weekends, and holiday needs.
In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
