Job Title: Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)

Location: Paols Park, IL

Job Description: Soliant is currently seeking a dedicated Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to join our team in Paols Park, IL. The TVI will be responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments, ensuring access to the curriculum and fostering their academic and social development.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct assessments of students' visual functioning and educational needs
• Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments, in collaboration with other members of the educational team
• Provide direct instruction in Braille, adaptive technology, orientation and mobility, and other specialized skills as needed
• Adapt instructional materials and teaching strategies to meet the unique needs of each student
• Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and parents to create inclusive learning environments and promote student success
• Provide consultation and support to educational teams regarding accommodations, modifications, and assistive technology for students with visual impairments
• Monitor student progress and adjust instructional plans as needed, using data to inform decision-making
• Advocate for the needs of students with visual impairments and promote awareness of visual disabilities within the school community

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Education of the Visually Impaired or related field
• Valid Illinois teaching license with endorsement in Visual Impairment
• Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) in the state of Illinois
• Knowledge of Braille and proficiency in adaptive technology for students with visual impairments
• Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired preferred
• Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
