Axle is seeking a skilled and dedicated Metabolomics/Lipidomics Technician to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) supporting our work at Rocky Mountain Laboratories located in Hamilton, Montana. The successful candidate will assist in the timely and accurate analytical measurement of metabolites, lipids, and pharmaceutical actives in samples from disease models. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in the field of infectious diseases and immunology. Position is contingent upon government funding. Anticipated start date is in October 2024.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of custom analytical methods, including LCMS methods, for the measurement of metabolites, lipids, and pharmaceutical actives in disease model samples.

  • Perform analytical measurements using LCMS instrumentation, ensuring accurate and reliable results.

  • Regularly maintain and troubleshoot LCMS instrumentation and systems to ensure optimal performance.

  • Maintain chemical extraction instrumentation in good working order.

  • Track and manage chemical and consumable inventories associated with LCMS operation.

  • Organize and maintain sample storage to ensure proper sample tracking and retrieval.

  • Aid in the mentoring and training of young investigators, providing guidance and support in laboratory techniques and protocols.

  • Ensure referenceable data storage and assist with data preprocessing and filtering.

  • Communicate promptly and effectively with collaborators regarding project details, timelines, and reports.

Position Requirements:

  • Applicants should possess a Bachelor's or advanced degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or other relevant fields with laboratory experience.

  • Laboratory experience in metabolomics and lipidomics or other mass spectrometry-based analysis of disease and immunology-associated samples is a plus.

  • Experience in data management, including data storage, preprocessing, and filtering.

Personal Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment with co-workers.

  • Strong record-keeping and organizational skills to ensure accurate and efficient laboratory operations.
