JOB DESCRIPTION

Science Teacher

Who is Purpose Built Schools Atlanta?

Purpose Built Schools is building a network of high-performing schools in Atlanta’s lowest-income communities, utilizing the highly successful model of Drew Charter School. Our mission is to turn around failing schools and put all children on a trajectory for success through college and in their careers. In the process, we will help revitalize the neighborhood they serve.

Purpose Built Schools is a first-of-its-kind innovative partnership with Atlanta Public Schools (APS) that is designed to turn around some of the system’s most troubled schools. We operate a K–12 feeder pattern of traditional public schools, but with the flexibility and full autonomy of a charter school. This unique approach allows us to combine the best of both traditional neighborhood schools and charter programs. We believe we can deliver outstanding results for our students and communities through high-quality instruction, intentional interventions and enrichment opportunities, and a strategic approach to serving our families’ needs beyond the schools’ walls.

What makes us different?

By combining the best of traditional public schools with the best of charter schools, we offer a proven program designed to put all students on a trajectory for success through college and in their careers. Atlanta Public Schools has partnered with Purpose Built Schools to give Slater Elementary, Thomasville Heights Elementary, Price Middle and Carver STEAM Academy the support they need to thrive.

STRUCTURE

Our students attend an extended school day to accommodate extended learning and enrichment opportunities – so students can see themselves succeed in multiple ways. Our teachers have time to collaborate, plan and learn.

INSTRUCTION

Our project-based learning instructional method emphasizes problem-solving and real-world application. This empowers teachers to guide students to become creative critical thinkers, collaborative leaders and skilled communicators so that they can succeed in the 21st century.

SUPPORT

Our schools are the center of community life. We have counselors, therapists, family engagement teams, and even lawyers to help care for our students. We offer competitive salaries within a supportive environment designed to lift up our students, our families and our teachers.

Our Purpose Built Schools Team

OUR TEACHERS ARE LEADERS
Unlike many public schools, we have a robust and comprehensive professional development program, and are committed to building a leadership pipeline from within, supporting and cultivating our future school leadership team.

OUR TEACHERS ARE INNOVATORS
Purpose Built Schools teachers are encouraged to identify opportunities to meet the needs of students and our community, and they have access to resources to try their ideas.

OUR TEACHERS MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Purpose Built Schools teachers have a fierce belief in their students, a relentless commitment to working hard, and the tenacity to do hard work.
