Role Overview

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager will develop, coordinate, and implement occupational health policies and procedures to promote and ensure effective safety operations across the organization. This position is assigned to Western Protective Solutions located in Eugene, Oregon and will report to the Director of Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead EHS within the organization, including goal setting, prioritizing facility safety and compliance needs, operating expenses related to EHS, and establishing or maintaining systems for tracking performance.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
  • Maintain compliance with all OSHA, EPA, DEQ, and LRAPA regulations.
  • Conduct sampling and maintain all required reports, records and submittals pertaining to OSHA compliance and recordkeeping, NPDES Industrial Stormwater permitting and compliance, Air Contaminant Discharge Permitting, and Hazardous Materials related programs.
  • Serve as liaison with federal, state, and local compliance regulatory personnel, including fire department. Communicate and interact with agencies to ensure company’s compliance is clearly acknowledged.
  • Remain up to date with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes to keep EHS programs current and effective.
  • Effectively coach and mentor managers, supervisors, leads and safety committee on building a strong safety culture and ensure safe work practices and behaviors are followed.
  • Work with management to ensure that the PPE guidelines are followed and that employees properly use and care for PPE and ensure defective or damaged PPE is immediately removed from service.
  • Lead emergency response efforts. Coordinate applicable employee training and participate in period emergency response drills
  • Facilitate Safety Meetings, and lead a process to share ideas, experiences and implement best practices between facilities.
  • Investigate environmental and safety accidents, incidents, and near misses using Incident Reports and participative root cause analysis techniques and implement corrective and preventive measures to prevent their reoccurrence.
  • Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
  • Develop, deliver and maintain EHS training programs for employees for multiple locations at all levels.
  • Ensure that employees are knowledgeable about safety protocols and procedures.
  • Conduct safety inspections and audits to assess employee compliance with safety regulations.
  • Support worker compensation claim management led by Human Resources.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
  • Ability to travel to separate facilities as required to conduct safety inspections.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or related field required.
  • Strong Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DEQ and LRAPA regulations/requirements.
  • Five years of occupational health and safety experience in an industrial environment preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
