Georgia CEO is Hiring an Office of Traffic Operations- GDOT Pro Civil Engineer 6- ETP125, PG P- Assistant State ITS Engineer Near Atlanta, GA

Job Summary:

Under minimal supervision, serves as a senior engineer performing engineering assignments. Provides engineering assistance developing project plans, designs, or traffic engineering studies and other related documents, field experience with traffic signals and ITS hardware, cost estimates and other engineering technical reports for transportation projects. Provides training, support and knowledge sharing to other engineers.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Tracks the overall success of statewide Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) by monitoring current projects and contracts while continually developing the State's overall ITS policies, practices, and initiatives.
  • Serves as the Major Mobility Investment Program (MMIP) ITS subject matter expert (SME) and ITS point of contact.
  • Must stay up to date on industry standards and technology trends, seek out new innovative ITS projects, communicate with local agencies to identify future ITS needs, and coordinate with various consultants, contractors, and local agency officials who work to deploy and maintain ITS.
  • Manages innovative and urgent ITS projects.
  • Manages the two ITS supervisors who are tasked with the engineering of ITS, such as NaviGAtor, ITS Design, and the ITS Comprehensive Maintenance Contract.
  • This position also requires planning for future programs and budgets that will allow the State to proactively address those needs and ensure Georgia's ITS is among the best in the country.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The selected candidate must meet the advertised minimum qualifications to include State Entry Qualifications as well as Agency Specific Qualifications.
Entry Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or civil engineering technology AND Three years of related experience, and a Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • OR Professional Engineer (PE) License AND Three years of related experience.
Agency Specific Qualifications:
  • Foreign degrees require a completed Equivalency Evaluation by NCEES along with the official transcript.
  • Georgia PE license required or the ability to get one within six months of hire date.
  • Experience in training, planning, directing, and evaluating the work of staff and appropriately managing a diverse workforce managing tasks and workload.
  • Experience working with and managing consultants.
  • Experience in applying transportation engineering principles, standards, laws, and/or regulations as part of the preconstruction, construction, or operation of transportation projects.
  • Experience evaluating technical specifications, standards, special provisions, construction details material related to civil engineering.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new information, changing conditions, or unexpected obstacles.
  • Ability to recognize and recommend opportunities to help the Department accomplish its mission.
  • Ability to make sound, well-informed decisions, and identifying, analyzing and providing effective solutions to complex problems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with subordinates, managers, coworkers, local officials, media and the general public in a professional and cooperative manner to meet their needs.
  • Ability to motivate and promote teamwork.
  • Ability to lead people and get results through others.

Agency Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in design, maintenance, installation, and repair of traffic signals and/or ITS equipment.
  • Experience evaluating technical specifications, standards, special provisions, construction details material related to ITS or traffic signals.
  • Experience with preparing, justifying, and administering a budget for a program or section
  • Two years of experienced overseeing or implementing construction projects.
  • Familiarity with the Department of Transportation and its operations, particularly in the area of Traffic Operations.
  • Familiarity with traffic operations policies, manuals, and software, including MUTCD and Georgia Code.
  • Ability to effectively negotiate to find mutually acceptable solutions; to anticipate and meet the needs of customers/employees.
  • Ability to present an idea or project in a public meeting format.
  • Ability to respond to special events and emergency operations in traffic management.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL GDOT JOBS

Good Employment Standing:

In accordance with the Interview and Selection Process (ISP), an applicant must have no active disciplinary actions to be in good employment standing. Actions that may disqualify an applicant include letters of reprimand (active for 12 months after issuance date); suspension without pay or disciplinary demotion (active for 12 months from the effective date); Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and Leave Restriction Plans (active until 12 months after the date of conclusion). In addition, an employee must have an overall ePerformance rating score of three (3) or higher on their most current evaluation. Please note that Memorandums of Concern are not considered disqualifying factors. Human Resources may remove any employee from consideration for selection who is pending a disciplinary action; however, if the action is resolved in the employee's favor, he or she will be allowed to compete.
