Atchley & Associates, LLP is Hiring an Audit Intern (Summer 2024) Near Austin, TX

As a mid-size firm, you have the opportunity to grow and learn from the best in the business. Our Audit Department continues to grow in number and in volume of work, and we need an intern to who’s ready to gain some experience in public accounting.

POSITION SUMMARY: The audit intern position requires an individual to become familiar with the Firm’s policies and procedures; understand the rules, regulations, and code of professional conduct of the AICPA and the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy; become familiar with pronouncements of the FASB, AICPA and when assigned to governmental engagements, the GAO and GASB; become proficient at preparing financial statements and obtain exposure to the types of financial statement engagements offered by the Firm; and, assume responsibility for unaudited financial statement engagements or segments of audits under the supervision of more experienced staff. 

 This is a paid internship requiring 40 hours/week – Monday through Friday.

QUALIFICATIONS: All interns must be pursuing a college degree with a major in accounting or other related business field and have from zero to three years’ experience. All interns must be proficient in MS Office, Adobe, and be comfortable working in a paperless environment. Also, interns will have an interest in becoming certified in public accounting. In addition, interns must be self-motivated, energetic, conscientious, and must pay particular attention to detail.

OBJECTIVES: To experience and learn the audit department functions of a public accounting firm, how to complete tasks as assigned in audit fieldwork, as well as to complete forms, interact with other employees in a team environment, and understand the goals of providing exceptional client service.

WORK ASSIGNMENTS: will include various field work tasks assigned by the in-charge for particular audit engagements, as well as other duties assigned while working in the office. There will be forms to complete using our Caseware software, allowing interns the opportunity for reviewing and analyzing documents provided by clients to gather the necessary and required information. Work assignments will also include learning organization of workpapers in a file that support the forms prepared. Interns are supervised on all their work assignments by professional staff and will be provided feedback on any needed corrections to the forms and work papers that they prepare.

TRAINING PROGRAM: Interns are assigned a buddy who will assist in their training process and be available for questions. They will be introduced via a tutorial on the audit software utilized by the firm. They will receive step by step instruction on how to prepare the various forms. They will be included in all audit department meetings and any in house education seminars. They will be included in meetings to discuss expectations and guidance for the current busy season. Work is divided and assigned based on level of difficulty so that the appropriate experienced staff is matched to an engagement and an intern. Interns are expected to provide a weekly journal to audit management of their experiences.
