Job Summary for Project Managers

  • Supervises and coordinates activities of construction workers.

General Accountabilities

  • Examine and inspect work progress, equipment, and construction sites to verify safety and to ensure that specifications are met.
  • Read specifications, such as blueprints, to determine construction requirements or to plan procedures.
  • Estimate material or worker requirements to complete jobs.
  • Supervise, coordinate, or schedule the activities of construction workers and laborers.
  • Confer with managerial personnel, other departments, or contractors to resolve problems or to coordinate activities.

  • Order or requisition materials or supplies.

Job Summary for Heavy Equipment Operator

  • Operates heavy power equipment.

    General Accountabilities

  • Operates a stone loader, bulldozer, and other similar heavy machine equipment.
  • Measures and splits stones.
  • Performs basic maintenance and minor repairs on a stone loader, bulldozer and/or other heavy power equipment.
  • Locates underground services before performing heavy equipment work.
  • Monitors operations to ensure all health and safety standards are met.
  • Aligns machines with reference to stakes, markers or guidelines and/or hand signals of other workers.
  • Loads and moves dirt, rocks, materials and/or other equipment.
  • Drives and maneuvers equipment to remove topsoil, rocks, vegetation and/or any other types of materials to distribute and level earth or terrain.
  • Coordinates machine's actions and/or activities for moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members.

Job Summary for Estimators

  • Collects and analyzes data in order to estimate the time, money, materials, and labor required to manufacture a product, construct a building, or provide a service.

General Accountabilities

  • Travels to job sites to gather information on materials needed and labor required.
  • Analyzes specifications and technical documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Prepares estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors.
  • Confers with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on cost estimates.

Job Summary for Laborers

  • Works at construction sites performing tasks such as demolition, laying concrete, installing floors and windows, and building various structures.

General Accountabilities

  • Reads plans, instructions, or specifications to determine work activities.
  • Measures, marks, or records openings or distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed.
  • Signals construction equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery.
  • Mixes, pours, spreads, smoothen and finishes concrete or cement.
  • Erects or dismantles scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, or other temporary structures.
  • Sprays materials such as water, steam, paint, or stucco through hose to clean, coat, or seal surfaces.
  • Applies caulking compounds by hand or with caulking gun to seal crevices.
  • Grinds, sands, or polishes surfaces such as concrete, marble, terrazzo, or wood flooring.
  • Demolishes buildings, saws lumber, dismantles forms, removes projections from concrete, mounts pipe hangers, and cuts and attaches insulating material.

  • Dumps materials into trucks, onto conveyors or somewhere else on a work site.
