Software-Defined Networking (SDN) position involves working with cutting-edge network architectures that treat the network as programmable logic rather than relying solely on dedicated hardware devices. Here are some key aspects of such a role: 1. Network Architecture and Control: o SDN engineers design, implement, and manage networks where control is centralized through software. o They work with technologies like OpenFlow, which allows dynamic control over network traffic flows. 2. Network Virtualization: o SDN professionals create virtual networks that abstract physical infrastructure. o They use tools like VMware NSX or Open vSwitch to achieve network virtualization. 3. Automation and Orchestration: o SDN engineers automate network provisioning, configuration, and management. o They use tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef to streamline network operations. 4. Security and Policy Enforcement: o SDN roles involve securing network traffic and enforcing policies. o Engineers configure firewalls, access control lists (ACLs), and security groups. 5. Software-Defined WAN (SD-WAN): o SDN professionals work on optimizing wide area networks (WANs) using software-defined approaches. • Participate in weekly agile scrums, phase retrospectives and phase planning events. Requirements: • Active DoD Secret Clearance minimum – Top Secret/SCI clearance will be a plus • Bachelors’ Degree is required, • 5 years of experience as a Network Engineer focused on Cisco and/or Juniper appliances/environments • 2 years working software defined networking • 2 years working on USN and DOD environments • Solid technical understanding of network architectures to include network appliances; security appliances; application services; virtual environments; network management tools; network protocols; network troubleshooting; and optimizing network performance • Ability to use software, tools, and scripts to configure, monitor, troubleshoot and repair network equipment • Experience working in agile teams. Familiar with agile tools such as Jira and BitBucket and agile processes. • Proven expertise in troubleshooting network problems • Good working experience with switching technologies and concepts • Strong working and troubleshooting knowledge of routing protocols; e.g., OSPF and BGP • Schedule and perform network maintenance, repair, and upgrade tasks as needed while limiting the impact on the production network • Understanding and using network analysis tools
