Physical Requirements
Lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects up to 50 lbs – frequent walking with some climbing of stairs, sitting for minimal periods of time, set-up of dorm unit including some drywall, furniture. Some use of tools including drills, saw, and everyday tools.

Job Summary
Responsibilities include overseeing the fire extinguisher program including conducting fire extinguisher inspections in both on/off campus facilities, coordinating the schedule for the fire extinguisher inspection program with our contracted vendor, review and approving invoices, maintaining documentation including entering information into the computer based fire extinguisher tracking program for compliance and budgetary oversight, tracking and scheduling vehicle maintenance for the University Fire Marshal fleet, assisting the Assistant Fire Marshal and Code Specialist with performing inspections for existing and new facilities to identify fire/life safety deficiencies in Greek housing, residence halls, and university-owned buildings (off campus and on campus). Conduct inspections/reviews for university construction projects to ensure adherence to project scope and Kentucky Building Code, UK Standards, ADA, and life safety standards. Conducts reviews (building audits, places of assembly and classroom evaluations) in identifying fire/life safety deficiencies. Compile reports with recommendations for correction of deficiencies.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Ability to read, interpret building plans, KY IBC codes and NFPA standards enforcement

Preferred Education/Experience
  • Associate Degree in Fire Science
  • Kentucky Level II Certified Building Inspector
  • Public education/instruction experience in a classroom setting in fire extinguisher use, fire and life safety
