Capacity & Flow Specialist

Sunday-Wednesday 7 am to 6 pm

Position Summary: Capacity and Flow are an integral part of shelter operations and are responsible for the overall shelter flow of animals. The role of the Capacity and Flow team is to support staff and move animals quickly and efficiently though the system. A key focus for this role is to assist in ensuring animals are receiving quality care in a timely manner, properly housed by kenneling animals throughout the day, and each animal has next steps in place.

Essential Duties:

  • Collaborate with our Trauma Hospital, Field, Foster, Animal Care, and Animal Assistance departments to assign and kennel incoming animals.
  • Work closely with our Transportation team on animal movement between facilities.
  • Assign kennels for unexpected intakes and communicate that to the appropriate departments.
  • Maintain and update all pertinent information in shelter data software regarding medical and behavioral concerns.
  • Work closely with theTrama Hospital to help complete putting animals up for adoption and adding in Rescue/Foster information through shelter data software.
  • Assist our Animal Care in cleaning kennels for last minute animals coming into the facility.
  • Attend a morning shelter animals capacity calls, while taking note of all animals coming in/ leaving the shelter. Work closely with the Intensive Care and Special Projects Manager to keep overall shelter capacity appropriate.
  • Provide feedback and suggestions for process improvements.
  • Adhere to all sanitation, medical, and behavioral protocols.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Must possess excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Demonstrate excellent time management skills and complete all paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to multi-task and be flexible depending on needs of the shelter.

Education / Certifications / Licenses:

  • High school diploma/GED
  • Completion of a Veterinary Technician OR minimum of one year of experience at a veterinary hospital. Education may substitute for experience.

Experience:

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

Language - Able to speak, read, write and understand English.

Mathematical - Basic

Technical - Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Explorer; able to learn other software programs as necessary. Proficiency with or able to learn/use Chameleon software (for use with animals in a shelter environment).

Other:

Regular attendance and punctuality required.

Work Environment / Physical Demands:

This position requires continuous standing, walking and kneeling, reaching, stooping and bending with little opportunity to sit down. This person must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Must be able to hear above the sound of the animals and be able to speak clearly and communicate well with employees and the public. This individual handles a high volume of animals, has a great deal of contact with the all departments and works closely with co-workers; is exposed to poor ventilation, heat, cold, sudden temperature changes and wet quarters as well as noise, animal odors and dander as well as fast-moving animals.
