Description
Employee-owned Kitchell seeks an experienced and dedicated Project Scheduler Sr. to join our Southern California Region in Los Angeles, CA and build a long-term career at one of the most innovative and growth-oriented Construction Services companies in the United States.
Overview
As part of our Technical Services Department, responsibilities will be essential in maintaining and improving Kitchell's Schedule Management Services. Prepare, maintain, and analyze proposals, preconstruction, construction, and as-built schedules. Provide scheduling direction and education to employees on scheduling processes and procedures. Reviews and updates contractor baseline schedules and related materials for accuracy and compliance with contract document requests and prepares related reports and recommendations.
This position has extensive remote work availability but does need to be within a commutable distance to a California Kitchell office (less and 50 miles) as there are occasional job responsibilities which required in person attendance.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Review Requests for Proposals/Qualifications, contracts, and specifications to evaluate requirements and communicate that information to the project team
  • Accurately prepare schedules for proposals. Generate reports and layouts that meet proposal requirements
  • Prepare master project/program schedule, including program cash flow, and update them on a monthly basis Prepare reports and identify areas that need special attention
  • Provide support to teams in assessing/documenting delays, impacts, and alternate work plans. Support project teams when excusable/non-excusable delay has been determined based on Scheduling Procedure
  • Prepare a Schedule Update Report narrative for each schedule update, which describes the status of project milestones, describes any deviations from a previous update, and identifies any critical schedule issues
  • Apply Earned Value Method analysis to construction schedule progress updates
  • Create reports and layouts which meet specific reporting requirements. Provide Project teams with the required number of copies for proper schedule update reports with distribution in a timely manner
  • Ensure that all projects have an approved baseline schedule. Assist the team in reviewing the baseline schedule and provide reports and comments
  • Provide scheduling assistance and education to internal and external project team members. Provide direction to scheduling engineers and schedulers by leading proactive and collaborative schedule review meetings
  • Review, monitor, and critique the accuracy and constructability of all schedules and narratives. Check schedule for deviations, critical path accuracy, imposed (constrained) dates, durations, logic, sequencing, and scope of work
  • Assist project team in evaluating, communicating, and mitigating schedule risks. Document and track schedule revisions to ensure these are implemented promptly
  • Maintain and backup schedule files for each project in a timely and organized manner
  • Establish and maintain collaborative, positive, and effective working relationships with employees, clients, architects, and contractors
  • Spearhead process improvement and lessons learned process
  • Whenever appropriate, review the cost and resource loading of program and project schedules
Requirements
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction or Engineering, or a closely related field is preferred
  • 5 - 10 years of experience in commercial and institutional building construction is required
  • PMI-SP or PSP certification is preferred
Knowledge and Skills
  • Demonstrable knowledge of scheduling terms, key performance indicators, techniques, and computerized scheduling programs (Primavera P6) is required
  • Experience with monitoring, controlling, and updating project schedules is required
  • Skills in reviewing schedules including identifying, analyzing, and solving schedule related issues is required
  • Understanding of pull planning and the application to a construction schedule including assisting the administration of the process is required
  • Understanding of contract documents, plans, specifications are required
  • Adept at math, analytical, communication, writing, and computer skills are required
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office environment and frequently works in a construction environment. Conditions occasionally include exposure to outdoor elements, hot/cold temperatures, wet conditions, noise, atmospheric conditions, and cramped quarters. The noise level in the work environment is regularly moderate and occasionally loud.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to regularly sit, talk or hear and use hands to finger, feel and handle; frequently stand, walk and reach with hands and arms; occasionally climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must frequently lift and or move 5 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 20 pounds.
Travel Requirement
There is a 20% travel requirement for this position.
