POSITION PURPOSE

This position is responsible for supporting the development and maintenance of the BCBSLA formulary, Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee functions, clinical policy creation/implementation, drug utilization review monitoring, and targeted member/physician education programs.

NATURE AND SCOPE

* This role reports to this job: Director, Clinical Services, Strategy and Policy

* Necessary Contacts: To do this job effectively, the incumbent has to be in contact with:

All levels of BCBSLA pharmacy department, Medicare Part D team, and clinical areas of Medical Management, PBM clinical personnel, and e-hosting formulary vendor personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

* Doctorate of Pharmacy (Pharm. D.) required or

* Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy required

* Master's training preferred

Work Experience

* 1 year of experience working in clinical pharmacy roles and supporting P&T Committee and/or drug information activities required.

* 1 year of experience in managed care preferred

* Experience with software programs such as Word required and must have knowledge of Excel and knowledge of PowerPoint. required

Skills and Abilities

* Must have proficiency in pharmacology, therapeutics and knowledge of disease management programs for the purpose of supporting the clinical aspects of this job.

* Must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, oral/written communication skills in addition to strong clinical skills.

Licenses and Certifications

* Current pharmacy license required

* Participation in ASHP or AMCP-accredited residency program preferred

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

* Assumes a leadership role in supporting the efforts of the development and maintenance of the BCBSLA formulary and Pharmacy and Therapeutics (PT) Committee functions.

* Responsible for support of medical policy development, implementation and maintenance for prescription drugs to ensure appropriate use

* Responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining utilization management tools and techniques (e.g., prior authorization criteria, step therapy edits, quantity per dispensing limits) necessary for the management of a high quality, cost-effective pharmacy benefit.

* Responsible for the active maintenance of the clinical integrity of new drug additions, specialty drug, formulary and utilization management information in all relevant systems including but not limited to PBM claims processing system, annual printed formularies, BCBSLA website, and e-formulary hosting services (e.g., ePocrates, and e-Prescribing tool).
