Role Description
Heartland is seeking a full-time (40 hours/wk), mid to senior level Ecologist with a focus on project management, technical project support, and team leadership. Desired skills include ecological restoration planning and assessment, wetland delineation, plant identification, wetland and waterway regulations, and a strong understanding of ecological restoration implementation processes and methodologies.
In addition to project management and technical project support, this position will assist leadership with building and leading Heartland’s strategic growth initiatives. Location We are looking for ideal candidates who can either regularly report to our Mt. Horeb office or work remotely from a home office within the greater Milwaukee area. Remote candidates will be expected to regularly visit our Brookfield office to manage and direct field staff effectively.
Required Qualifications
• Undergraduate or Post-Graduate Degree in biology, ecology, natural resources, soil science or related field.
• 7 years of experience in the professional ecological field.
• Experience leading technical teams and serving in capacity of Project Manager.
• Experienced completing wetland determinations and delineations.
• Familiar with state and federal wetland and waterway regulations.
• Experienced planning, assessing, and managing ecological restoration processes, such as performance monitoring/reporting, seeding/planting, invasive species management, and prescribed burning.
• Experienced in developing project approaches, cost estimates, and proposal writing.
• Ability and willingness to complete field work in remote areas in difficult terrain and various field and weather conditions.
• Willingness to work beyond a 40-hour week when necessary.
• Must be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills both verbal and written, as well as strong technical writing skills.
• Valid State driver’s license.
