Employment Type: Full time Shift: Day Shift Description: Position Summary: Responsible for developing and implementing strategic public and media relations programs in support of West Michigan Regional Health Ministries and Medical Group. Serves as hospital spokesperson and manages media relations, including responding to press inquiries and writing and distributing press releases and media statements. Coordinates, schedules, and manages media interviews with leaders and subject matter experts. Develops strong working relationships with local media and serves as the local point person for regional and statewide advocacy initiatives. Tracks and measures the effectiveness of media outreach. Provides communications counsel and hands-on tactical assistance to Regional Health Ministry leadership. Stays current on latest trends in public and media relations. What the Public Relations and Communications Specialist will need: Bachelor's Degree in English, journalism, communications, public relations or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience. Three or more years previous work experience in public relations and/or journalism to include professional writing and/or media experience. Portfolio of writing required. Strong skills in researching, interviewing, writing, editing, and project management, and an orientation to continuous quality improvement. Strong written and oral communication / presentation skills (executives, boards, small to mid-size leadership groups). What the Public Relations and Communications Specialist will do: Serves as the hospital spokesperson for public and media relations. Participates in Media Line coverage rotation 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Develops and coordinates public and media relations strategies and tactics to support initiatives arising out of regional and local health ministry strategic priorities. Creates WMI news bureau, media coverage reports and dashboards. Initiates news releases, PSA's, feature stories and story ideas. Cultivates positive relationships with WMI media outlets and reporters. Provides communications/PR counsel and hands-on tactical assistance to client departments. Writes and creates key messages, talking points and toolkits for client department leaders. Interviews subjects, writes, and edits stories, and takes photos for internal publications, including weekly electronic communications. Assists with fact finding, fact checking, research, copy editing and proofreading as needed.
