American Public Media Group is Hiring a Major and Planned Giving Officer Near Saint Paul, MN

Who We Are:

APMG's primary operating divisions Minnesota Public Radio, Southern California Public Radio and American Public Media offer multi-regional FM broadcast channels, website, mobile and social media channels, live events, national content creation and distribution. Together, these divisions operate 49 public radio stations and 42 translators serving regional audiences in eight states from Minnesota, Michigan and the Upper Midwest to Idaho and California; distribute a portfolio of more than twenty national programs reaching nearly 20MM listeners weekly through 1,000 radio stations; serve rapidly growing audiences on digital, social and mobile platforms; and produce an increasing and diverse array of podcasts featuring the best in food, culture, entertainment, mental health, water, early brain development, business and investigative journalism.
The Major and Planned Giving Officer will generate philanthropic revenue for MPR|APM through the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major and planned gifts.
Expected Compensation Range: $85,000 -$95,000/yr. Exact salary determined by experience and education related to the role, organizational compensation structure, geographic location, and internal equity.

Your Role:
  • Designs fundraising plans in support of the APMG strategic plan including revenue forecasting for individual and shared fundraising goals.
  • Manages identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a dynamic portfolio of 120 donors through personalized correspondence, in-person visits, telephone/video calls, briefings for leadership engaged in fundraising, and other relationship building activities.
  • Solicits gifts for unrestricted and membership support, program support, endowment, and other priorities identified through strategic planning.
  • Advises donors on philanthropic giving plans including outright major gifts, gifts of stock, donor advised fund giving, bequests, beneficiary designations, life income gifts, and other popular charitable giving opportunities.
  • Creates highly personalized major and planned gift proposals of $100,000 or more for donors interested in supporting the mission of public media at MPR|APM.
  • Tracks goals, contacts with donors and potential donors, solicitation plans, stewardship activities and all fundraising outcomes following process and procedures established within the Philanthropic Development Center.
  • Develops professional expertise by participating in professional development, reading professional publications, seeking out information related to philanthropic trends and public policy, networking to understand and incorporate best practices, and other activities that result in innovative fundraising strategies.
Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Five years' experience in major and planned gift fundraising or seven years related experience in annual giving, foundation relations, direct marketing, or sales.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Experience working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds which may include diversity in age, race, ethic, religious, LGBTQIA and/or other cultural identities.
  • Proven track record of meeting revenue goals through upgrading existing accounts and new relationships.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to understand the importance of confidentiality.
  • Ability to manage an expense budget.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Motivated, creative, and organized self-starter and team player.
  • Strong interest in public radio and its case for support.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Experience working in public media.
  • Experience with SalesForce or similar CRM.
  • Experience in a nonprofit environment.
