Position Summary: Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Academic Advisor IV - Academic Advising Specialist, Navigate Outreach Specialist - Boca Raton, FL. University Academic Services office offers students a broad, comprehensive array of services aimed at aiding students in developing and implementing an appropriate and meaningful education plan. Summary of Responsibilities: Support the UAS in the use of Success Network/Navigate 360 by: Creating and managing training modules, documents, and tutorials for students and staff. Developing and delivering personalized training to professional staff, student workers, graduate students, and administrative support. Facilitating student outreach, communication plans, and marketing. Create Success Network communication plans for students and staff. Provide additional advising web resources. General: Provides academic advising to their caseload of first and second-year students with a specific emphasis on second-year student advising/coaching and the transition to college advising, including transfer students at FAU under 45 earned credit hours and all undeclared students regardless of hours earned. In support of our FTIC and second-year students, this position will require some evening and virtual hours on a rotating basis. Serves as liaison to an assigned college or student support unit(s) on campus. Applies general education requirements for each College, university-wide practice and policy. Provide leadership and oversight of the review and updating of Degree Audit Reports (DAR) and content changes and substitutions. Identify students based on early warning software to proactively identify at-risk students for outreach and intervention for university advising offices; provide resources and one-on-one and group opportunities to at-risk students as identified in Navigate and by other means. Provide training, professional development, and mentoring for advisors, level I, II, and III. Clears undergraduate registration holds and responds to email inquiries and phone messages. Assists with campus events, such as the Admission's Office open houses, University Expos, and other evening and weekend duties requiring an UAS advising presence. Assist students with developing academic and career action plans, work and support undecided students, students in academic difficulty, and students transitioning into their major of choice. Develop and implement an academic based outreach/sophomore year experience plan specifically targeting rising sophomores and second-year students who fall under the UAS umbrella. Demonstrates mastery of advising knowledge, models expertise in advising practice and shows depth in professional engagement; serves as a liaison and consults with various Advising Units and College(s) related to the development of programs. Uses advising and student development theories, institutional data, and research findings, to implement best practices that enhance the student experience, support the growth and proficiency of colleagues, and contribute to the unit and university strategic goals and initiatives. Uses advising and student development theories to make improvements to resources and processes utilized by students and advisors; responsible for providing specialized advising services for multiple programs and student populations. Monitors student academic plans to ensure timely graduation using advising and student development theories, institutional data, and research findings. Provides leadership in the professional development of advisors, maintenance of degree audit system, orientation, graduation, and student retention initiatives; leads professional development events and activities at the unit or campus level. Implements best practices using student development theories that enhance the student experience and actively contributes to the unit and university strategic goals and initiatives. Develops innovative improvements to resources and processes to assist students and advisors in course selection, career development, and personal accountability for success. Teach the SLS freshman transition courses as needed.
