Position Summary
General Summary/Responsibilities:
The Safety Companion is a paraprofessional member of the health care team who works under the supervision of a licensed nurse to perform basic nursing tasks as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills
§Must display good physical and emotional health and be capable of stooping
§Must be self-directed with the ability to work with little direct supervision and have the maturity necessary for establishing and maintaining a good work relationship with the patient
§Must have a sincere interest in and sympathetic attitude toward caring for the sick and disabled.
§Must meet all agency personnel policies and have reliable transportation to and from the facility.

Organizational Standards

§Meetsthe safety needs of the patient and uses equipment safely and properly (i.e.
§Followsall agency policies regarding infection control and employee safety.
§Recognizes patient's needs and attends totheir requests in a prompt and organized manner.
§Maintainsa neat and orderly patient environment.
§Utilizesappropriate communication skills with the patient
§Servespatient’s tray and assist with feeding if necessary. Removes food tray andreports amount eaten.
§Completesaccurate records and carries out all assignments as requested.Is responsible for maintaining minimumweekend on-call
§Demonstratesrespect for patient property and maintains patient confidentiality.
§Observesbasic elements of body functioning and reports changes to the RN.
§Recognizesemergencies and demonstrates knowledge of emergency procedures.
§Performsonly under the supervision of an RN who has provided written instruction forpatient care (Care Plan).Participatesin ongoing development of the Plan of Treatment.
§Maynot receive orders from a physician.
§Willnot administer medications or pre-fill insulin syringes
§Maynot perform any sterile procedures or perform any intravenousprocedures.
§Maynot perform procedures requiring the knowledge
§Isnot authorized to perform non-patient related work without priorauthorization from supervisor.
