Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District is Hiring a Security Officer Near Cleveland, OH

JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, ensures a safe and secure environment for District employees, visitors, various other internal and external stakeholders and District buildings, grounds and equipment.Performs the highest level of customer service while providing physical security throughout all District facilities and on all properties, through roving patrols and traffic control, responding to events such as injury or illness.Serves as primary security response until emergency response unit arrives or transports to medical facility.Rotates to all District locations to ensure familiarity with duties and responsibilities across the District.Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Patrols designated areas on foot or using District provided transportation by means of a car, Segway, bicycle or other approved forms of transportation. Makes periodic patrol tours around buildings and grounds examining doors, automobiles, equipment, windows, perimeter fence lines and gates. Monitor security systems and equipment to ensure operational use and to detect security violations.Performs proactive monitoring of and timely responses to potential/actual security threats.Operates, monitors and responds to alarms and closed-circuit television systems.
  • Watches for and reports irregularities such as fire hazards, safety hazards and security concerns.Checks doors, windows, gates, etc. to ensure they are secured.
  • Ensures unusual circumstances or problems are noted and reported to the proper authority such as police and fire departments, client contact, facility administration/management, Sergeants, Lieutenant and Chief.May take action in emergency situations such as illness, safety hazards or other unusual situations. Administers first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation and may deploy an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
  • Provides emergency response and general assistance at all facilities. Responds to alarms. Investigate incidents and non-process accidents. May serve as liaison with police or other emergency response team(s) on mutual problems.
  • Investigates disturbances and in the event of emergency, facilitates order and safety of others to the extent that maintaining personal safety as a first priority allows and serves as liaison with emergency response unit(s).
  • Receives visitors and provides general and specific information. Responds to telephone inquiries and provides information during non-business hours or when administrative offices are closed or unavailable. Opens and secures access gates and security doors at designated times.
  • Operates weigh scales and associated processes.
  • Promptly reports security risks such as downed fencing, security lights off, unsecured equipment containers, unlocked doors and inadequately secured high value items.
  • Monitors and authorizes entrance and departure of employees, visitors and other persons to deter theft and unauthorized individuals.Maintains sign in/out logs. Performs inspections, including bags and vehicles.
  • May give direction to crowds at events and oversees pick-up and delivery of equipment and other applicable items.
  • Prepares reports and gathers all relevant information. Follows SOPs and other identified procedures, policies and protocols.
  • May provide security training to District employees, contractors and other stakeholders.
  • Hand delivers letters. Transports employees to occupational health provider for substance tests and minor injuries.
  • Provides minor vehicle assistance such as battery charging and vehicle lockouts.
  • Observes safe work practices.
  • Must participate in continuing education required to maintain peace officer commission, as well as all department or District required training.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION
  • Candidate must possess a high school diploma, GED or state recognized equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
  • No required experience.

  • Candidate must be 21 years of age.
LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Candidate must possess a current and valid peace officer certification as a police officer in the State of Ohio as verified through the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA).
  • Candidate must be certified, willing and able to carry, maintain and ensure proper care and handling of a District issued firearm.
  • Candidate must have a certificate for First Aid and the Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/AED courses or must be able to obtain certificates of completion within ninety (90) days of employment.
  • Candidate must possess a valid state of Ohio driver's license with a driving record in accordance with the District's acceptable guidelines.
ASSESSMENTS, INVESTIGATIONS AND EXAMINATIONS
  • Candidates will be required to participate in pre-employment assessments which may include a written test, physical agility test, psychological assessment, background investigation, face-to-face interview and pre-employment medical examination.
  • Criminal convictions involving violence, theft or that are sexual in nature or convictions that would appear to impede with the performance of the duties of this position may be a disqualifier i.e. no felonies or misdemeanors, with the exception of minor traffic offenses.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Candidate must have knowledge of the District's policies and procedures, strong knowledge of weaponry and verbal de-escalation techniques, public safety, customer service and security operations, rules and regulations. Candidate must also exercise the ability to lead effectively, but also strive in team and relationship building.
  • Candidate must have the ability to comprehend situations, reason well and use good judgment, possess effective written and verbal communications, exhibit organizational skills as well as computer skills, interpret data, listen actively, reason inductively, negotiate effectively, persuade, ensure information accuracy, administer general first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation/AED and accurately analyze situations and quickly make sound recommendations.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
During the course of performing the essential functions of this position the employee must be able to compare, copy, compile, coordinate, negotiate. The ability to communicate while exhibiting strong interpersonal skills is required. Candidate must also be able to compute, analyze, synthesize and instruct on an occasional basis. Physical work will need to be performed, such as standing or sitting for long periods of time, walking, climbing, stooping, balancing, handling, reaching, feeling, fingering, talking, hearing and control of others. Potential for crawling, crouching, kneeling, and running during a conflict. The candidate must properly wear issued protective gear weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds daily. While rare, the candidate must also be able to push or pull up to or more than one hundred (100) pounds, if circumstances dictate. Position will require visual demands of near acuity, far acuity, depth perception, color vision and accommodation. The position is predominately outside of a typical office setting. While working in the field the employee may be exposed to extreme weather (hot or cold conditions), wet and or humid conditions, atmospheric conditions, hazards, vibrations and confined/restricted working environments. Must possess the ability to work a rotating 12-hour shift with the possibility of mandatory overtime up to 16 hours.
Pay Range: USD, Commensurate based on Reporting Location and Shift
$35.00 per hour
