Job Overview

We are seeking an Environmental Engineer (SH&E Generalist) for our West Palm Beach location.

This position may be filled at this level or one level higher.

Essential Functions

30% - Plans, develops, directs, and assesses environmental programs to achieve compliance with internal and external environmental requirements and goals including air pollution control, hazardous waste management, industrial waste water discharge, storm water pollution prevention, and resource conservation.

20% - Works with management, employees, & customers in ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, local and internal environmental requirements. Activities are performed in accordance with Organization & program standards & procedures.

20% - Collects, monitors, evaluates and reports on data related to environmental programs for continual improvement and prevention of environmental non-compliance throughout the site, including quarterly environmental sampling events for compliance with environmental permits.

10% - Monitors and evaluates the impact of emerging issues and regulations on company operations, relating to environmental programs. Conducts investigations and coordinates resolutions.

10% - Coordinates, schedules and provides overall management and oversight of hazardous waste shipments off site, typically quarterly

5% - Works regularly with regulatory agencies and other Aerojet Rocketdyne sites and external environmental and occupational safety professionals.

5% - Occasional cross functional work on safety programs (training provided) may be necessary in order to support the SH&E team as needed

Requirements

Requirements:

Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent interpersonal skills (written & oral), with an ability to resolve conflict, flexibility & adaptability, problem solving & analytical skills. Excellent communication skills when working with internal & external customers. Ability to perform work assignments with direction in a team environment as well as work autonomously to ensure compliance with environmental requirements. Full understanding of EPA regulations related to the environmental programs described in this job description is required.

Must be willing and able to travel approximately 10%.

  • Flexibility and ability to occasionally work other shifts as needed

May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds.

Work may require the ability to operate material handling equipment (forklift, crane, hoist, man lift, etc.) in a safe manner. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels or with fume or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, etc. requiring the use of personal protective equipment such as face protection (safety glasses, goggles, face shield), foot protection (i.e. steel toed shoes, rubber boots, etc.), gloves, hard hat, shop coat and hearing protection. Some positions may require Respirator clearance up to and including the Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Level A clearance.

Work requires the ability to change into or out of personal protective equipment when entering or exiting manufacturing, laboratory, or other areas. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Site or between locations. Work duties will also include work in a standard office setting use of standard office equipment, including a computer and/or the ability to travel by air or auto. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. This position may be expected to occasionally work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
