Introduction
The Department of Health Services (DHS), Mendota Mental Health Institute (MMHI) is currently recruiting for an Occupational Therapy Assistant.
MMHI is located on the north side of Madison and offers a beautiful campus environment, convenient free parking and an onsite workout facility. MMHI is an inpatient psychiatric facility, with one outpatient program, specializing in serving patients with complex psychiatric conditions, often combined with certain problem behaviors. A secure setting to meet the legal and behavioral needs of our patients is provided. MMHI is an integral part of the entire Wisconsin mental health service delivery system.

Position Summary
As the Occupational Therapy Assistant, you will be responsible for providing occupational therapy evaluation and treatment to patients in specifically assigned program areas. You will be responsible for:
  • providing direct Occupational Therapy services
  • participating with the multidisciplinary team, unit and department staff
  • training Rehabilitative Services students and students from related disciplines
  • training and consulting for the Institute and community
  • program evaluation and research.
Salary Information
Pay for this position is $24.50 and $29.00 per hour (approximately between $50,900 and $60,300 per year), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.
Pay for current or former state employees is set based upon the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is in pay schedule and range 06/64.
Job Details
All applicants will be required to allow the DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any convictions may be related to the job being filled.
All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by MMHI or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.
DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants will have the following:
  • Certification or eligible for certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy and licensed or eligible to be licensed by the State of Wisconsin as an Occupational Therapy Assistant at the time of hire. Eligible includes currently registered as a COTA in another state and are eligible to obtain licensure in WI OR graduate within three months of graduation.
Well-qualified applicants will also have at least one of the following:
  • Experience providing Occupational Therapy services.
  • Experience working with adult psychiatric patients.
  • Experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team.
