Position Summary:

Nusano has an exciting opportunity for a CAD Designer at the mid or senior level to support the West Valley City Production Facility in Utah. The CAD Designer will work with Engineering, Radiochemistry, and Facilities to develop and manage design documentation in SolidWorks PDM. CAD models include components, assemblies, and full systems for particle accelerators, nuclear reactor targets, isotope separation, machine layout planning, and supporting structures like hot cells and radiation shielding. This team member will plan, lay out, draw, and revise part, assembly, and installation engineering drawings and provide valuable input to an integrated multi-disciplinary team.

What You'll Do:

• Work within a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and architects
• Manage large machine-scale assemblies in SolidWorks
• Create 3D models from conceptual designs
• Create detailed engineering drawings, 2D fabrication prints, and schematics
• Ensure correct GD&T of custom parts, castings, machine parts, sheet metal components and weldments
• Manage design configuration through SolidWorks PDM
• Provide input to design regarding manufacturability, functionality, and usability
• Optimize hardware designs for strength, cost, standardization, and other factors
• Coordinate with design team, manufacturers, and vendors to determine appropriate manufacturing process for designed hardware
• Mentor and coordinate work with junior CAD drafters

Minimum Requirements:

• Associate degree in a related field or equivalent experience
• 5 years of experience in creating models and prints of mechanical parts and assemblies using SolidWorks or equivalent 3D modeling software
• High proficiency using SolidWorks or equivalent
• Proficiency using SolidWorks or equivalent standard libraries
• Proficiency using SolidWorks PDM or equivalent vault systems
• Strong attention to detail, technical proficiency, and problem-solving skills
• Strong written and verbal communications skills

Preferred Requirements:

• Bachelor's or master's degree in a related field
• Demonstrated experience managing complex assemblies and systems in SolidWorks PDM
• Certification such as CSWA or CSWP
• Experience with Autodesk Revit or other architectural CAD software
• Experience in product development or systems design.
• Experience with radioisotopes, nuclear reactors, particle accelerators, or medical devices
• Experience with FEA and other design optimization tools
• Experience applying GD&T to high-precision, high-performance parts
• Experience delivering urgent design updates with short turnaround time
• Experience designing within strict industry guidelines or government regulations (ANSI, FDA, etc.)

Physical Requirements:

• Must be comfortable working in a facility that produces radiation.
• Work to be conducted in both an office environment and the production facility.
• Must be able to sit for extended periods of time. Frequent use of computer with repetitive use of keyboard, mouse, and manual dexterity.
