Department: 05570 AMG Southpointe Neuro Otology - Audiology Status: Full time Benefits Eligible: Yes Hours Per Week: 40 Schedule Details/Additional Information: 1st shift Monday-Friday. Hours could range from 7:30 am-5:30 pm MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES Support pre-implant evaluation process. Assist with intake forms and phone calls. Review referrals and generate necessary correspondence for referral authorizations. Submit and track financial approvals and insurance authorizations. Assist in insurance appeals. Communicate with patients regarding insurance denials. Coordinate and assist with scheduling appointments. Create letters as needed. Maintain, compile, audit, and process files and paperwork. Track patient status in process. Coordinate with all involved disciplines (e.g. audiology, otology, imaging, speech, ophthalmology, genetics, etc). Order and receive devices and accessories. Process device requests. Verify surgery date. Track order for receipt of devices/accessories. Work with surgical scheduling to ensure all testing, clearances, and consents are completed and valid prior to surgery. Order/receive replacement parts and clinic supplies. Coordinate with the OR regarding device status. Coordinate post-operative clinical services. Coordinate appointments. Register devices. Coordinate upgrades and Letters of Medical Necessity. Respond to phone calls and other patient messages. Assist with patient care as needed. Coordinate and maintain calendar of events, appointments, meetings. Manage Epic items such as running recalls and reports. Help promote and expand the cochlear implant program. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED License/Registration/Certification Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) unless department leader has determined it is not required. Audiology Assistant program through Nova Southeastern University or the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) must be started within the first year of employment, and completed within three years. Education Required: High School Graduate Experience Required: No experience required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED Ability to handle multiple tasks/responsibilities with efficiency in a busy clinic setting. Excellent communication skills and ability to explain tests and procedure to patients. Demonstrate a strong attention to detail and accuracy. Willingness to learn about hearing implantable technology to support patient care. Proficient in the use of Microsoft office products, email and electronic medical records systems. Have a basic functional knowledge of equipment in order to troubleshoot and order replacement parts Have a basic functional knowledge of programming equipment to troubleshoot or generate reports Have a basic functional knowledge of insurance rules and procedures regarding auditory implants PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders frequently throughout the workday. Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. without assistance. Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs of force. Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch. Will be exposed to the following hazards on a frequent basis: mechanical, electrical, and chemical as well as blood and body fluids; therefore, must wear protective clothing or equipment as necessary.
