POSITION OBJECTIVE:
The primary focus of the school social worker is to assist students whose emotional/ social problems interfere with their ability to obtain maximum benefit from the educational program. The social worker may also act as a liaison between parents/ guardians, school, and public or private agencies responsible for student care and services in order to assist parents in taking advantage of services available in the school and community. Serve as a mentor to less experienced Social Workers; serve on Leona-wide crisis response teams to provide support to other schools in the event of major incidents of crisis.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
  • Implement a social work program aligned with the School Social Work Association of America (SSWAA) national model in the areas of academic, college and career, and social-emotional development.
  • Conduct assessments of individuals and families with the goal of improving student social, emotional, behavioral and academic outcomes.
  • Conduct reliable and valid assessments of students and families to inform the design of interventions to remove barriers to learning. Complete assessments of campus needs to prioritize service delivery.
  • Provide consultation to school personnel, parents/guardians, and community partners for the purpose of enhancing their understanding of student needs, developing effective interventions, and building school capacity.
  • Act as a liaison with community agencies to ensure continuity of services. Facilitate crisis response and provide follow up crisis counseling and referrals to appropriate providers.
  • Demonstrate the use of evidence informed practices in their interventions.
  • Utilize data in assessing needs of planning interventions for individual students, groups, and/or whole school population.
  • Maintain accurate, complete and punctual records, as well as safeguard the privacy and confidentiality of information as required by law and District policy.
  • Adhere to state and District mandating reporting requirements as they pertain to safety concerns.
  • Ensure that students and their families are provided timely communication and services, within the context of multicultural understanding and competence.
  • Attend required program training and conduct required program activities, including implementation of social emotional learning strategies.
  • Liaison between students and outside social services
  • Promote college readiness through education and training.
  • Assist with college applications, scholarships, PSAT/SAT/ACT registration
  • Host college and career fairs on campus.
  • Host Financial Aid workshops.
  • Serve as a point of contact with any outside entity wanting to offer any post high school opportunities.
  • Performs other duties that may be assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or Psychology
  • Master's Degree in Social Work preferred
  • 1-3 years school social work experience or the equivalent, providing the skills and knowledge necessary to plan and implement meaningful and effective guidance and social work activities.
  • Excellent skills in project planning and in coordinating multiple short- and long-term projects.
  • Evidence of successful experience in student/parent relations.
  • IVP Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
